Li Meili blinked twice before accepting the bouquet from her husband. A smile crossed her face as she gently touched the small flowers.

This wasn't the first time she received flowers from a man. In fact, Tang Beixuan's flowers still appeared on the desk at her boutique every morning without a miss. According to the flower shop attendant, Tang Beixuan had arranged for them to deliver flowers for the next five years before his accident took place.

Li Meili received different flowers before. From red roses to colorful tulips to pastel carnations, she'd been accustomed to receiving more popular flowers than Lily of the valley. In fact, this was the first time she received one.

"Do you like it?" Zhang Jiren asked her expectantly, watching her expression carefully.

"En." She hid her smile behind the bouquet, her eyes glinting in amus.e.m.e.nt seeing her husband act like this. "But why Lily of the valley?" she asked in curiosity.

"Because it is said that it is one of the flowers that represent the second year of marriage and the flower shop said that in Victorian times, Lily of the valley signified a return to happiness. Don't you think it's quite fitting for the two of us, Meili?" Zhang Jiren said before taking a seat across from her.

Return to happiness? Li Meili liked that.

"I didn't know you could be this romantic, Jiren, but thank you. I appreciate your effort to make this night special to us," she said with honesty. It was his little acts of kindness that made her fall in love with him.

Zhang Jiren served their meals and Li Meili fought the urge to m.o.a.n as she took a bite from the food her husband placed on her plate. She felt really lucky and spoiled by having a husband who could pamper her like this. Zhang Jiren allowed her to indulge in every possible way he could.

Forget dieting, Li Meili thought. If she was able to eat delicious food like this then she wouldn't mind gaining extra pounds, so long that Zhang Jiren wasn't bothered by it.

"Oh my god. This is delicious. How come Moyu couldn't cook like you? You two are similar in so many ways yet opposite in some areas," she exclaimed.

"My sister can't cook?" Zhang Jiren asked. Thinking about it, he never saw or heard Tang Moyu working in the kitchen.

"Moyu and cooking? That's something you shouldn't put in a sentence, Jiren." Li Meili chuckled. "It's already surprising enough to know that she could at least make decent pancakes for the twins when they were younger."

"I never thought my sister would be that bad in the kitchen," Zhang Jiren admitted. In all honesty, he thought that if Tang Moyu focused on something, there's no doubt she would be able to excel in it. It turned out, unlike the rest, cooking was something the empress would never be able to master in this lifetime.

"You can rely on Moyu on so many things except for cooking." Li Meili continued to eat as the conversation flowed smoothly between them. She filled her husband with the events and happenings she and Tang Moyu encountered when they were younger and when they flew out of the country when the empress fell pregnant with the twins.

Zhang Jiren listened attentively to his wife. Li Meili was a great conversationalist; no wonder his twin sister didn't mind a chatterbox like her by her side. She travelled to places he'd never been and was charming and smart in her own way.

Li Meili had enjoyed this night with her husband. It was fun to talk about things other than their business and problems they had at the moment. As she looked at the smiling face of her husband, Li Meili wanted to engrave this memory in her heart.

Hours later, the dirty dishes were forgotten on the dining table as the two spent the night for the first time. The silken sheets felt cool and sensuous against Li Meili's b.a.r.e back. Her hands sought out his wide shoulders, her nails digging possessively into his hard muscles.

Her m.o.a.ns mingled with his low groans. His bigger body covered hers as he surged inside her. She was so wet, so tight; Zhang Jiren shut his eyes and clenched his teeth trying to control himself. He wanted to make it good for her. If he didn't get a hold of himself, it was going to end sooner than he would like it to.

He inhaled her familiar scent at the spot on her neck where it was more intense. She smelled incredible. Their dinner date wasn't supposed to end up like this, but the intense hunger he'd seen in her eyes when they kissed after their dinner had driven him mad with need.

He supposed he should apologize to Elder Lan via phone call as it didn't seem like he and Li Meili would be able to return home tonight. Thankfully, the security in their villa was being overseen by the Li family, so he didn't need to worry about their daughter's safety while they were away.

Zhang Jiren slowly withdrew, relishing the delicious way her inner muscles clenched around him, trying to hold him inside. It was too much for him and his sanity. He couldn't remember being intimate with a woman could be this good.

Li Meili couldn't utter a word, not when her blood was hot in need, her senses dulled by the p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e of his touch. She loved the assertiveness, the feeling of his skin pressed against her while his slightly calloused hand explored the contours of her body. His hot breath fanned against her pulse and she willed him to understand how much she wanted him.

At one strong thrust, Li Meili screamed his name, her back arching as she clung onto his arms. Her inner muscles ripped, clenched hard around him, and he couldn't hold back any longer. As Zhang Jiren let go, a guttural groan escaped through his clenched teeth.

He collapsed on her side a few moments later, ensuring that he wouldn't crush her with his weight. Both panted as they tried to catch their breaths. He rolled on his side, pulling her close.

Li Meili was too out of breath from the afterglow of the mind-blowing p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e she shared with her husband. She lay on her side, dazed with Zhang Jiren next to her.

Initially, before she married him, Li Meili thought that they were incompatible, that was why she was confident that love would be impossible for the two of them. He was too stiff, so stern that she didn't think a person like him would even know how to love a person. However, as she felt his arms holding her close, his warmth, Li Meili realized that she'd been wrong about him.

Li Meili wasn't sure what time she had dozed off to sleep but the moment she cracked her eyes open, Zhang Jiren wasn't on the bed with her. She checked the digital clock on the nightstand and saw that it was already four in the morning. No wonder her husband was already out of bed, he was usually up and ready even before the sun rose.

She gathered her clothes from where they lay strewn on the floor and threw it in the laundry basket. Since they used to live here, Li Meili knew that she had a few clothes that were left here.
