Having the Same Name as the Demon Lord of the Abyss

The girl paused, lifting her head back up to see the baby-faced boy.

The boy’s head flexibly tilted to one side. The pair of eyes were empty and lifeless, with blood pouring out of his mouth, and he fell at her feet in an instant.

The girl did not care for him at all. She kicked him away, and warily glared at the person who was standing behind him.

A slender and pale hand raked through hair, casually pushing back the blood-soaked hair. His face was beautiful, mixing the borders of femininity and masculinity with elegance and melancholy. After combing back the luscious long hair, the true face was revealed; one that was dangerously handsome.

Pale and brooding, fierce and arrogant, perfect beyond measure, and aggressive as all hell.

He had no association with the words tender and fragile.

The man raised his head, staring at her with dark and cold eyes, and stretched out his hand. “Give it back.”

The girl smiled sweetly, aiming a dead stare back at him with resentful eyes.

Fear. There was only utter fear, to the point of trembling, but the more she trembled, the sweeter she smiled, and the tighter she hugged the person in her arms.

Soft and petite fingers were placed on Ye Zun’s neck. The pain of suffocation made him frown unconsciously, awakening his vague consciousness little by little.

The girl’s chin rested on Ye Zun’s shoulder, almost pasting her cheek to his.

She spoke sweet words in a quiet voice, but her hoarse and neutral voice was not sweet.

“As expected, you aren’t anything good.” She watched the dangerous man opposite her. “I knew from the moment I laid my eyes on you. If I knew, I would’ve listened to Mo Fei and killed you first.”

Little by little, she moved backwards with Ye Zun.

The man’s dark eyes stared at her coldly, dismal and lifeless, driving chills down trembling bodies.

“Don’t move ah.” The girl smiled nervously, maintaining her tilted head and constant blinking of her eyes. Her state seemed unstable, and her voice was hoarse. “You are seriously so scary. I don’t want to swear in front of Gege, but you are way too fucking scary, like a monster. I dare you to move!”

Her shaking fingers clenched Ye Zun’s neck, and with a thin blade between her fingers, blood slowly seeped out of snow-white skin.

She shrank her neck and hid behind Ye Zun’s body, and smiled happily. “One more move and I’ll slice his neck. No matter how inhuman of a monster you are, you can’t do anything to bring the dead back to life ba. He is so good-looking ah. If I’m right, he’ll look even better if he can move, frown, and talk ba. If he dies, I will no longer be able to see that. My Gege died, do you want him to die too? Do you want to compare with me? See who can kill faster?”

The man stood there, tilting his head and staring at her silently, frighteningly calm. The corners of his lips curled up coldly, and said in a low voice, “Okay ah, I won’t move.”

That look…

Just seeing those eyes enveloped her body with chills. Every bone in her body seemed to be aching, as if shrouded in a thick aura of death, like facing tens thousands of sharp blades.

“Shhh!” The girl gestured to be quiet and mouthed the sound. All seven orifices seeped blood under the cold pressure, but she paid no mind and just smiled brightly, “He’s about to wake up la, do you want him to see your true monstrous face?”

“Really? Then, that will be great. Thanks for your hard work preparing the stage…”

Ye Zun’s eyelids were heavy. He did his best to lift them, unable to restrain his coughing.

——It’s so cold ah, like I’m floating amidst black glacier, sinking from the entanglement by a heavy serpent. Death obstructs the suffocation of the dark and cold that are out to kill me*.

[T/N: 死亡阻隔了窒息一样杀死他的黑暗和冰冷 yeah sorry this escapes me, idk]

Something fell at his feet.

Who is it? Did another die?

Someone took him in his arms and walked forward step by step.

“Ye, Ye Zi…cough cough…” Ye Zun choked, called out the name unconsciously.

A hoarse and low voice whispered, “Wrong oh, Gege got the wrong name.”

Ye Zun froze, remembering the scene before he fainted. He looked up, ignoring his current incapacitated state, and saw the face of his captor.

The captor was not as hideous or scary as he imagined.

The girl had a pale and innocent face, with short hair stuck to her forehead from being soaked in blood. She looked more like a victim than a murderer. Her facial features were round and her lips were obediently pursed in a straight line. The pair of dark eyes were big and round, and the corners of her eyes drooped innocently, revealing a strange kindness and obedience.

She smiled, her eyes bent and full of pure fascination and admiration.

“Gege, you are so good looking ah. You look better in black clothes. You should dress like this more often in the future ba.”

Ye Zun froze for a moment and frowned slightly. He looked at her, unable to understand.

The girl’s insincere blinking and coquettish pouting was also extremely cute. “I like it so so so much. I will always, always like Gege, love you to death.”

Ye Zun couldn’t help but swallow deeply.

——Is this a psychopath like Shen Yuan? What insane talk is she spouting?

“If Gege is awake, we can speed up.”

She held Ye Zun and proceeded forward with ease. Being carried by a girl with surprisingly strong arms, Ye Zun had almost no ability to resist her.

——Wait, that’s not the strength of a human at all. What the hell is she?

“Where are you taking me? Where is Ye Zi?”

The girl frowned. Her watery eyes looked like she was about to cry, but she smiled and looked at him as if she was heartbroken. “Brother is so biased ah, am I not cute? Why does Gege only care about that Ye Zi? That kind of sinister, scheming pervert who grows his hair long on purpose like he doesn’t know his own gender, and wants to trick Gege into liking him. No matter how he fits Gege’s aesthetic preferences, he’s still a man ba. Gege doesn’t like men, right? Or do you like his face? Ah, Gege isn’t so shallow, right?”

Ye Zun looked at her with cold eyes. “I asked you, what did you do to Ye Zi? If you dare to kill Ye Zi, I will not let you go!”

The girl’s wide eyes didn’t blink. Her eyes moved up and down and stared at Ye Zun, cautious and seemingly surprised. A gentle warm spread in those black and bright pupils. She exclaimed and praised, “Ah, Gege looks so so good even when he’s angry ah!“

“But,” she said innocently, tilting her head and sighed, her breath lifting her short bangs, “Why are you angry with me? People like Gege can’t kill people. What can you do to me?”

Ye Zun faintly said, “Who knows. You haven’t always been like this, have you? Before, did you ever think that you would become like this now?”

“For me, I have always been like this ah.” Saying this, the girl’s eyes were slightly startled. She couldn’t hold back the urge to swallow, and when she blinked, her eyes were shining with a bright and happy light. She looked at him with curiosity and pleasant surprise, her lips slightly parted. “Ah, so actually, you really are angry? Why? Do you actually like him? Do you really like him ba?“

Ye Zun pursed his lips and didn’t answer.

The girl raised her head and stared at Ye Zun, pinching his chin with strength that wasn’t too light or heavy, and whispered in a low voice, “Say it ah. I really don’t like Gege looking at others, because other people have mood swings; good moods or bad moods. Why can’t you just look at me, purely because I am me? Gege, be angry with me for a while ba. I am influenced by others, so my mood swings left and right. Because if other people change, I will want to go crazy.”

Ye Zun broke free from her grip with effort, unable to understand why a girl would act so aggressively like a man.

“I’m not angry with you. If you hurt Ye Zi, I will only want to kill you with whatever it takes. I really will murder you!”

“Okay ah. But if you really want to do it, you can’t just announce you’re gonna murder someone. Gege is way too cute.”

She continued to lug Ye Zun forward, and in a blink of an eye they came to the room where the array was set up. She brought Ye Zun in and closed the door.

“What do you want to do?” Ye Zun asked her calmly without struggling.

The girl with a happy smile looked at him with eyes full of infatuation. “Don’t you long for Ye Zi? Since we’re here, is Gege going to save him?”

Ye Zun looked into the room, the one with an array formed from paper partitions.

When he was unconscious, he heard them talking to some extent. They seemed to be discussing whether to bring him or Ye Zi to the resentful spirit.

Seeing this scene, the people who were taken away were probably inside the room.

Ye Zun raised his foot and walked into the array.

“There is no exit inside. If you go in, only one person can come out alive.” The girl listlessly tilted her head, blinking at Ye Zun and pretending to be cute, then casually nodded as she said, “If everyone dies until there is only one left, they will automatically clear the level.”

Ye Zun turned his head back to her. Even with no expression, and without needing to look at the other person, that clean and clear face was enough to make people fall into the trap.

The girl couldn’t help approaching him, staring at him drunkenly with gloomy eyes, and raised her hand to touch his face. “It’s so strange. I don’t really like or dislike people’s appearance, but why is it that when I see you, even my eyes are reluctant to shut? What’s the difference between this face and other people’s? For me to like it so much. I really can like it, forever.”

“Is that so? Then you might as well go to hell with me too ba,” said Ye Zun coldly. Holding her with a tight grip, he began stepping back without hesitation.

The girl smiled and obediently followed him into the array. She pursed her lips and looked up at him, smiling brightly, her gloomy eyes shining brightly. “That’s perfect, I’m so excited.”

Ye Zun watched her with a face devoid of emotions. His expression was quiet and unwavering from beginning to end.

In the next moment, two figures disappeared together into the thick black fog in the room.

The villa was quiet. From top to bottom, it was a dead silent and cold land, with no life.

Before people grew aware, the sky was already very dark. The peach blossom forest outside was a glowing crimson expanse in the black night. Countless corpses swayed in the dreary wind, giggling.

In the lounge where they came from, four corpses were scattered.

The girl who was bleeding from seven orifices was lying stiffly against the wall, her fingers holding the thin blade still frozen in position in the air. Together with the corpses of her three companions, she had long been dead.

She tilted her head as if looking for someone before she died, her eyes empty and blank. She probably didn’t get to see the person she wanted to see in the end.

……

Time returned to the past, before Ye Zun woke up.

Thanks for your hard work preparing the stage…” The man looked at her with no feeling on that dismal and gorgeous face. The corners of his lips raised in a cold curl. “As a thank you gift, I will make your death less painful.”

The cunning, smiling girl froze instantly as if she was petrified, and her stiff body fell over beside Ye Zun, her lips in a silent part.

The man stepped forward to take her place, taking hold of Ye Zun who was gradually waking up. With fingers covering the other’s eyes, he took him out of the room full of bodies, and began walking out of the villa.

“Ye, Ye Zi…cough cough…” That person woke up and called out his name.

“Wrong oh, Gege got the wrong name,” a low voice quietly said. The corners of his lips lifted in a crazed smile, cold blinking eyes seemed to suppress something with great effort.

……

Yin Xiaoyu tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep all night. She closed her eyes for a while before suddenly opening them.

When entering the game, she hesitated again and again, but chose to be the protagonist in the end.

As promised, the game immediately gave her a background and a heroine identity to set the plot.

The female protagonist was a first year in the broadcasting department. A natural beauty who stands out with a little dressing up, she was already noticed by many people even before the military training was over.

After one semester had passed, many people were chasing her. Among the suitors, the heroine chose Mo Fei, a second in the finance department.

Many people said that the heroine was only after Mo Fei for his wealth and background and made sour sarcastic remarks behind her back.

The female protagonist explained to everyone that she doesn’t care about money when choosing a boyfriend, it’s just because Mo Fei and her have common interests; they are both interested in the supernatural, and they came together naturally.

But the truth was, the protagonist took a fancy to Mo Fei’s tall, rich and handsome self.

——Laoniang* is so beautiful, if I don’t pick a rich, lavish, handsome and pure man to fall in love with, will I have to settle with an out-of-shape otaku brat with acne marks all over his face? Aren’t we living in the modern era?

[T/N: referring to oneself as as a madam, like how arrogant young men refer to themselves as Laozi]

But no matter what era, if a girl with no money confesses that she likes the other person since he is rich and handsome, she will definitely be called a gold digger and held in contempt.

The female protagonist didn’t want to be scolded at all, so she stuck firm with the explanation of falling in love over their similar interests and like-mindedness. Before that, she didn’t even know whether Mo Fei had money.

In fact, the female protagonist has no interest in the supernatural at all, because her father, who drinks and beats his family when he’s in a bad mood, was in the business of selling pirated horror DVDs. When she was a child, there were DVDs everywhere in the house, which made horror movies her most hated thing for most of her life.

However, when she was with Mo Fei, the heroine pretended to be very interested. Relying on her own courage, she took the initiative to ask the other man to tell her ghost stories, planned a date to go to a haunted house together, and going to the cinema to watch a new horror movie.

It is because of these efforts that their relationship developed by leaps and bounds.

Moreover, unlike what everyone else thought, it was not Mo Fei who pursued the heroine, but the heroine who took the initiative to approach Mo Fei.

She was very smart; no matter how her ambiguous behavior made people misunderstand, she always regarded herself as his friend and never took the initiative. Only when the other party took the initiative to pursue her did she show a surprised look, hesitating over and over again, before accepting the confession after a delay.

However, after they got together for real, the female protagonist couldn’t stand it anymore.

In the past, because of Mo Fei’s appearance and wealth, she thought she would be fine, but after being together for three months, she felt that she actually couldn’t stand it.

The heroine was embarrassed to tell Mo Fei that she had lied to him at first, that she was not interested in the supernatural at all, so she could only drop hints every now and then that her interests have changed a little in hopes that the other party would reduce their conversation topics in this area.

But it was with little success.

After a long time had passed, the moment she saw the notification for Mo Fei’s text, she thought of his voice and immediately felt bored and evasive from conditioned reflexes.

Moreover, because the broadcasting department can receive some part-time jobs such as corporate events outside of the university, she got to see the mature working class. The heroine began to feel that Mo Fei was childish and simple-minded. Apart from having money at home, he had no capability. She felt that there was something seriously wrong with her eyes in the past.

Thus, within three months of their established relationship, she wanted to break up.

The protagonist did some calculations. She had accepted some expensive cosmetic gifts from him, and she didn’t spend any of her own money on him.

If the worst comes to worst, she’ll pick up some more part-time jobs and convert his gifts into cash. If Mo Fei minded, she would give him the money directly.

However, the female protagonist didn’t answer the phone even when she went home for the Chinese New Year. Mo Fei found out about the heroine’s weird behaviour and stopped her at the downstairs entrance of her dorm building when school started after the holiday, asking her out to talk.

“So, you want to break up with me?”

The heroine summoned the courage to nod. She knew that Mo Fei had done nothing wrong, but she also felt that she was wronged too ah.

Anyone who falls in love will want to spend their days in sweetness and happiness. Who would want to open their eyes to horror movies and close their eyes to ghost stories, stuck with a low-spirit all day.

“But, I thought you would also like it, that’s why I collected these for you.” Mo Fei forced a smile and said, “You should’ve told me earlier ah, I won’t do stuff like this in the future. I really like you, I will always like you.”

Thus, they reconciled like this.

But after reconciling, the heroine realised that it was not the case. She didn’t just want to break up because of Mo Fei’s interests; she really had lost all interest in Mo Fei.

After consideration, she still took the initiative to bring it up. “Let’s still break up ba. I don’t seem to have feelings for you anymore. I don’t want to lie to you, and I don’t want to lie to myself.”

Mo Fei was very upset and tried to persuade her several times, but the more he acted like this, the more the female protagonist avoided him.

Finally, Mo Fei said with red eyes, “I started a ghost stories club at school. There’ll be an event on the weekend. You should come and be the host ba. We also met because of something similar. Even if this is ending, I want it to have a happy ending.”

When the player Yin Xiaoyu received the identity of the female protagonist given by the game, it was already at the plot point where the two reached an agreement to break up and prepare for the day of the test of courage together.

Yin Xiaoyu broke out in a cold sweat. It was the first time that she felt that, could it be possible that the horror story of this instance is about the president of the Ghost Stories Club wanting to use this test of courage to lure the ghost into killing the ex-girlfriend who broke up with him for revenge?

Naturally, she also saw the notification from the game stating that all survivors will share the rewards equally. She took a deep breath.

In order not to expose her identity as a player, Yin Xiaoyu spent a day working hard to practise her hosting skills, temporarily trying to clasp the Buddha’s feet* so that her identity won’t be ripped apart by other players.

[T/N: clasping the Buddha’s feet without burning incense: making last minute preparations]

However, during the preparation process, Yin Xiaoyu came in contact with the NPC Mo Fei several times, and Yin Xiaoyu felt that this person was quite good.

Reasonable, with a calm temperament and yet still funny. He took good care of the people around him and respected her as an ex-girlfriend; a well-educated, wealthy and handsome man.

What reason does such a high-quality little Gege have to take revenge on an ordinary woman just because she broke up with him?

Who hasn’t had a few mismatched relationships in their life, who hasn’t broken up a few times? How could a normal person kill someone for something like this?

——So, although I am the female protagonist, is there another reason for the horror genre?

At the end of that night, the members of the Ghost Stories Club suddenly jeered and edged them both to participate in the test of courage.

Of course, Mo Fei, the president of the club, had no problem with this addition.

According to the character profile given by the game, the heroine wasn’t afraid, she just didn’t like supernatural things. So, with the role of the protagonist, she did not refuse this kind of event.

However, the player Yin Xiaoyu was very scared.

She wasn’t originally scared of such things, but after getting involved with the Demon God’s Amusement Park and knowing that there are ghosts in the instance world, there was no way to not be afraid.

However, so many people attended the event and had no problem with the game. It wouldn’t make sense if she was scared. If she refuses to partake, she will immediately be suspected as a player.

What’s more, in this kind of game, doing something different from everyone else is the most dangerous move in itself.

Yin Xiaoyu then reacted generously and readily agreed.

At this time, Mo Fei already knew that she didn’t like the supernatural, and he looked at her with worry and comforted, “Call me immediately if you feel uncomfortable at any point.”

Not only that, Mo Fei also arranged his turn to be behind hers, ready to respond at any time.

If Yin Xiaoyu hadn’t already broken up with him as described in the game’s setting, she would’ve had a hard time trying not to fall in love with this native NPC.

There was nothing scary about the test of courage, especially after watching thirteen videos in a row. Without exception, almost everyone was just scaring themselves.

Yin Xiaoyu walked all the way to the depths of the peach blossom forest without coming across anything strange, and got the number plate with no difficulties.

Although the heels of the shoes she wore that day were not very tall, she was still a little unsteady walking on the hillside.

When she walked back to camp, her pact slowed down a little, and she couldn’t help but relax.

【 Be careful, that man, he wants to kill you. 】

These words suddenly appeared in her head.

The fine hair on Yin Xiaoyu’s body stood on their ends. She immediately looked around.

However, there was nothing. She wasn’t even sure if the voice was male or female. It was as if she fell in a trance, the imagination in her own mind running around uncontrollably.

After returning to the camp, Mo Fei stepped forward immediately and collected live broadcast equipment in a smooth movement.

Seeing that the colour on her face was not very good, he asked in concern, “Are you okay?”

Yin Xiaoyu replied, voice strained, “It’s just, it’s really late and I’m tired.”

Mo Fei was slightly apologetic. “It’s almost over. I’ll get someone a driver to take you back to the hotel to rest after.”

As for his mannerisms, he had already slightly distanced himself from her, like their relationship was purely that of the president of the Ghost Stories Club and the host he invited. He never even said anything about personally sending her off.

Such a gentlemanly ex-boyfriend who had propriety made Yin Xiaoyu a little doubtful. Could it be that she really was thinking too much?

——Or, this is the peach blossom ghost’s scheme, by deliberately provoking people’s hearts?

Mo Fei quickly went to finish the last round of the test of courage.

Maybe it was because he was really not afraid, or maybe it was because Yin Xiaoyu was tired and he wanted to end it sooner, but there were no twists and turns during his turn.

It made everyone who wanted to watch the president’s excited state sigh in dissatisfaction.

At three in the morning, Yin Xiaoyu arrived at the hotel under the escort of the staff.

She took a brief shower and fell asleep.

Then, she dreamed that she was running in a peach blossom forest. There was a terrifying person who was persistently chasing her.

In the end, they caught up.

The savage looking man pinched her neck, laughing maniacally and exerting force little by little.

She struggled with all her might, but to no avail. She could only feel the pain of her life slowly draining away.

——Am I going to die? Am I going to die here? Why, why kill me?

The murderer’s face was unfamiliar; it wasn’t Mo Fei.

A familiar voice whispered into her ear: 【 See ba, I told you, be careful, he will kill you. 】

The suffocation born from being on the verge of death lasted for a long time, as if she would die in the next second, but she wasn’t able to take her final breath.

In the end, Yin Xiaoyu was woken up by the ear-piercing notification sound of a text.

It turned out that she had briefly browsed her phone before going to sleep and had put it beside the pillow, accidentally pressing it under her head.

The hotel lights were always on.

In the aftermath of the disaster, Yin Xiaoyu clutched her neck, sweating profusely, heart beating like a drum.

There was no problem with her breathing and her throat, the proof that everything was just a dream.

In order to divert her attention, she picked up the phone with trembling hands.

The message sent to her covered the screen in colour——

Showing a savage looking man hanged to die on a peach tree, the last moment of his struggle to breathe.

“Ah!” Yin Xiaoyu was frightened out of her wits* and instantly she hurled her phone away.

[T/N: literally, (so scared that) the soul flies away and scatters]

But the screen played that scene in a loop. Without someone to exit, it will keep repeating.

Yin Xiaoyu cried in fear amidst the gurgling sounds from a throat struggling during death. Her legs were soft and her hands were shaking, but she had to muster up the courage to pick up the phone again and force the screen to exit.

Otherwise, she was afraid that the ghost of the dead man would crawl out of the phone to find her.

However, it didn’t work.

She couldn’t quit, she couldn’t shut it off; it was like a virus.

Yin Xiaoyu sobbed and smashed her phone on the corner of the table so hard, and only then did she completely get rid of that horrifying image.

After everything was over, Yin Xiaoyu cried hysterically in a dead silent room. She had been scared almost to the point of collapsing.

Her vulnerable and sensitive nerves made her suspect everything. She felt that there was something malicious hidden in the hotel room; it would crawl out to find her from the bathroom, behind the bathroom curtain, from the TV, from the closet, and even from under the bed.

Yin Xiaoyu wept and rubbed her eyes vigorously. It was still dark at that time and she didn’t dare to go out, so she could only call the only contact she knew using the hotel landline.

The call to Mo Fei took a while to connect. He seemed to be woken up by her call, but he was still very gentle and patiently asked her what happened.

Yin Xiaoyu cried and couldn’t speak clearly, and just begged him to come to accompany him, not caring whether saying this to her ex-boyfriend in the middle of the night would lead to misunderstanding.

Mo Fei quickly sobered when he heard her crying in fear and immediately agreed. He told her to stay in her room and not to wander around.

Before Mo Fei arrived, Yin Xiaoyu washed her face despite being scared out of her mind in order to make herself look like a damsel in distress*, and not like a sleazy, crazy woman.

[T/N: literally, delicate and touching]

Mo Fei came quickly and brought her a hot drink. He kept apologising and putting the blame on himself, that he shouldn’t have let her partake in the test of courage

Yin Xiaoyu calmed down. She chose the identity of the female protagonist and knew that something horrifying would definitely happen. Of course, she would not blame Mo Fei. She just remembered one thing.

“In the message I received just then, the person who was hanged seemed to be a boy from last night’s test of courage. His name was probably Yucheng, or Chengyu, something along that line.”

Mo Fei frowned. “You mean Jiang Yucheng? Could it be that he is sending these on purpose as a prank?”

Yin Xiaoyu went deeper in her memory and remembered that in her nightmare, the appearance of the man who ferociously strangled her seemed to gradually overlap with the hanged man in the text.

“Jiang Yucheng is still camping by the lake at the university, I’ll go to settle matters with him.”

It was impossible for Yin Xiaoyu to stay here alone, so she immediately decided to go with him.

Then, she saw Jiang Yucheng’s corpse hanging in the peach blossom forest.

——The story has already begun, and I am the protagonist.

Yin Xiaoyu looked at the vast expanse around her in horror.

From then on, at any time, no matter whether there was someone at her side or not, she could see the evil spirit with hostile eyes in the crowd, looking at her.

Appearing suddenly, disappearing inexplicably, full of malice.

Was it a hallucination, or was there a real evil spirit haunting her?

She did not know.

“I will help you, I will solve this matter, don’t be scared.” Mo Fei was also afraid, but firmly stood by her side.

【 Be careful, that man, he wants to kill you. 】The voice kept appearing in her head out of nowhere, in the ghost’s text when she was alone, unceasingly.

Who is this ‘man’ they were referring to?

Can she trust Mo Fei? If not, what should she do to survive to the end?

……

“Do you want to cooperate? I am the protagonist.”

Mo Fei is an experienced player, and is no longer considered a novice. He has already passed four games and as long as he completes this level, he will be able to get a pass to move from the Pu’ensibarleeti district to the Pavas district.

Detective, protagonist, passerby.

Among the three identities given in the game, he naturally chose the protagonist’s identity without hesitation.

Passers-by usually represent cannon fodder who don’t know anything. Of course, you can also choose this role if you are not strong enough. When fishing in muddied waters*, it may not necessarily be impossible to catch up from behind. He has done this before.

[T/N: taking advantage of chaos around you to gain benefits]

But after acting as the protagonist, he fell in love with this gameplay.

Detectives and passers-by play the game passively through the plot. Only the protagonist is the one who actively controls the direction of the plot and the gameplay.

It’s just a normal puzzle that needs to be solved. It would be too wasteful to be a detective in such a world.

He is different. He likes to be the director, rearranging the stories according to his wishes, enjoying the feeling of playing everyone in the sounds of applause.

The identity of the protagonist is a natural protective shield. Even if they are in this kind of game level, where there are exclusive rewards, no one will kill the protagonist first, causing the plot line to collapse, and they will not be able to clear the instance by themselves.

Therefore, Mo Fei was able to walk up to the people he suspected without any scruples and invite them to form a team.

“I am the protagonist, and I know where a part of the plot is headed. We can cooperate.”

He went to find the baby-faced detective first. He was very certain of the other’s identity. As long as information related to the plot in the instance is released and traced back to him, the detective will take the initiative to approach.

The second person he found was the short-haired girl. The other party had a very calm composure, and it took Mo Fei a lot of effort to find her.

“I’ve met you before. In the first instance, there was someone beside you. You have changed a lot.”

The girl named Yaya, with a cute and petite appearance, said with a grating voice. “Cooperate with me, I want to kill.”

Mo Fei smiled. “I’ve heard of your methods. It doesn’t matter, you can kill anyone in this instance, except for us.”

“What if I want to kill you too?”

“Wait until everyone else is dead, then you can try.”

Mo Fei had the ability to form alliances between forces that cannot be united and put himself in an invincible position. He had no interest in head-on confrontations.

As long as there are enough chips in his hand, it will not be his turn to make a move.

Therefore, he needed more and more bargaining chips.

“Do you want to cooperate? I am the protagonist.” He found two others in a blink of an eye.

Ordinary players were also not of concern. A fool used properly is still a move well made.

Mo Fei formed a ‘triangle team’ with everyone. Each of his teammates were unaware of the other teammates.

This means that he can let them live when he needs them, and let others kill them when he no longer does.

There is no one who can’t be used.

Killing always takes time. The time they use to kill will be his safe time and his chance at winning.

Mo Fei is the protagonist, so he naturally had the character setting and background plot of a protagonist.

A wealthy second generation that liked horror and the supernatural since he was a child, not because he was bold, but the contrary; it was because he was too cowardly.

And so he needed exposure therapy, to fight poison with poison, such as watching horror movies to relieve stress.

The protagonist’s identity and preferences were quite similar to those of Mo Fei himself, the only difference is that Mo Fei didn’t have a girlfriend named Yin Xiaoyu, and he wouldn’t love someone to the point of going crazy if the other people broke up with him.

But it didn’t matter. After exchanging plot information with the detective, he mostly guessed the direction of the following storyline.

After Mo Fei received the information given by the game, the place where he appeared in the instance was the forest where the ghost story took place. However, the game didn’t tell him why he was dropped in that kind of place.

His experiences in the previous four games sharpened Mo Fei’s thinking. He suspected that the male protagonist’s memory may be incomplete, and he probably lost memories regarding some crucial events.

He immediately paid someone to restore the computer data and found the chat records between him and Jiang Shao that the male protagonist had deleted.

There were three members in the first ghost stories club, the fourth year senior, Jiang Shao, and the male protagonist.

The three of them played the game of summoning the pen fairy in the peach blossom forest together.

Although the male protagonist and Jiang Shao didn’t see anything, the senior said that the peach blossom ghost was in contact with him and they conversed every day.

Very soon, the senior began to behave strangely.

【 He seems to be brainwashed by a ghost. He is in love with the ghost. 】

The protagonist and Jiang Shao were both excited and terrified. They tracked and secretly recorded the senior, but there were no definite signs that the ghost existed. Even when the senior said with certainty that they chatted often, they only saw the senior talking to himself.

The last time it happened, the male protagonist had his own things to do and couldn’t go, so only Jiang Shao followed the senior.

Then, on that day, the senior climbed the hill behind the Hushan campus and jumped straight into a deep pond.

Jiang Shao was frightened out of his wits, becoming incoherent.

After the male protagonist contacted him again, Jiang Shao’s temperament changed drastically, as if he had become that fourth year senior.

He smiled mysteriously and said, “Senior didn’t lie, there really is a beauty in the peach blossom forest, and we are now in love.”

The male protagonist felt a chill from his scalp to the soles of his feet.

Jiang Shao’s fate can be imagined, knowing that of the senior student.

In order not to follow in the footsteps of these two people, the male protagonist rushed to the peach blossom forest before the resentful spirit could find him, and performed another ceremony, a ritual from an unknown origin that even he didn’t know of.

After Mo Fei became the male protagonist, he failed to find out which ceremony he performed.

However, the plot given by the game told him that he set up a new ghost stories club, and furthermore, he invited the ex-girlfriend who broke up with him to host the test of courage.

Mo Fei immediately understood what his character was going to do in this story, as well as the general direction of the plot.

The death of the senior and Jiang Shao has proved that playing scary games in the peach blossom forest can really summon evil ghosts.

Let the irrelevant club members and the ex-girlfriend go, and the result can be imagined. Divert misfortunes to the east*, and let the ghost kill people.

[T/N: actions that prevent oneself from suffering losses, letting others bear the misfortune (referring to WWII)]

But Mo Fei felt that the male protagonist was not so much seeking revenge on his ex-girlfriend, but maybe he was just like himself, and just wanted to use these people to study the evil spirit.

Mo Fei didn’t intend to change the plot and do something like preventing the Ghost Stories Club’s test of courage from proceeding.

Moreover, he expanded the plan and changed the game’s setting for him. What originally was a club with ten recruited members (including himself), now had twenty.

The number ‘10’ that the game designated to the club members was obvious; these ten people were all players.

But if everyone knew each other’s identities from the beginning, the game would be less fun. It would be far more interesting to hide in the crowd and play Werewolf*.

[T/N: identity deduction game (like among us, mafia, secret hitler etc)]

In order to create a flawless game, he was very involved. He even happily entered the test of courage himself.

As well as beforehand.

That’s right, during the day before the test of courage, Mo Fei entered the peach blossom forest alone, and dug out the magic weapon buried by the male protagonist to prevent the resentful spirit from finding him.

“Do you want to cooperate with me? I can give you many, many sacrifices.”

Wasn’t cooperation with an evil spirit, still cooperation? There is no difference between players and ghosts; as long as they are useful, they can be used.

“I wasn’t like this before.”

On the third day of the game, looking at the image of seven corpses hanging in the peach blossom forest sent to his phone, Mo Fei smiled and admired it for a while.

He was indeed not like this before. Before he entered the Demon God’s Amusement Park, he was just a very ordinary rich second generation.

Just as ordinary as the protagonist of this instance.

Creating a steady and polite appearance to the outside world to make yourself appear dignified and popular, as if you are the proud son of heaven, admired by others.

But the truth was, he did not live happily. There was only suppression; he had always been desperately suppressing himself, suppressing his true feelings.

Disappointment, anger, dissatisfaction, resentment, jealousy, and fear.

They kept accumulating all the time.

Until these emotions gradually grew, and his mediocre body could no longer contain them.

This instance really suited him, because the original male protagonist’s character was really too similar to him in the past.

He could even fully understand why the protagonist would be in so much pain after Yin Xiaoyu broke up with him, and why he wanted to kill her by supernatural means.

Except for himself, he was afraid that no one could understand his thoughts. It truly was regrettable, and a source of rage.

He even became jealous of the male protagonist. The male lead had Mo Fei to understand him, but no one could understand his feelings.

How can he not be enraged?

In order not to be so angry and lonely, he decided to expand the game to allow more people to participate and share the same feelings.

In the end, there were only seven official tickets for the game, so of course there had to be a preliminary round.

Mo Fei also kept one for himself.

Although it seemed that clearing was inevitable given that he was the protagonist, avoiding the end wasn’t truly out of the question*. He just wanted to go, so he specially reserved a ticket for himself.

[T/N: 虽然身为主角似乎必去不可,但也不是不能规避 took full creative liberty here because I don’t know what this means

If this was the past, this would be impossible. In the past, the ordinary and mediocre him only wanted to pass the level. If he wanted to win, with all the fear he carried, he would have never let himself take risks.

But this instance is different. The fear he felt, the escapes he attempted, the struggles he made, and actions he took in the Demon God’s Amusement Park in the beginning, he was now actively enjoying it.

“This game really is way too good. Now I finally understand, the value and significance of this world.”

In particular, he also met an excellent playmate.

That person is different from him. He voluntarily formed a team with an NPC. So naive; did he still want to save an NPC?

However, someone like him, someone with those eyes, should be able to understand him ba.

……

Ye Zun clearly dragged the ferocious girl into the array with him, but after passing through the dreary miasma, he was the only one left.

Fog shrouded a dark crimson peach blossom grove. After walking a few steps, Ye Zun found himself by the lake in the Hushan campus.

On the Lover’s Slope by the lake, Mo Fei sat comfortably on a rock. Seeing that Ye Zun was not in a hurry, as if waiting for him to go over, he smiled and said, “Want to cooperate with me? I’m serious this time, I formally invite you to be my companion, my only and true companion.”

He jumped off the rock, languidly moving, and walked straight to Ye Zun.

“It’s not just this instance. In the future, we will play together in every game in the amusement park, as a team. I will leave the Nightmare Border soon and get a ticket to the Pavas District. When the time comes, you will come with me.”

Mo Fei was radiant with delight. He licked his lips, and his eyes and smile were already excited. “How about it, aren’t you super happy to know that you can jump several levels at once? Not only that, if you come with me, I will let you experience a different way of playing. It’s very exhilarating, you will definitely like it.”
