[At a certain house — LA]

“Look, guys! I uploaded my video, and it’s trending on the 3rd! Fucking heaven if this isn’t what I pray for every night! I just have this thought that no one knows what you’re going through until they see the results-”

“Exactly. It’s like a woman getting congrats when she’s pregnant, but nobody knows how much she got fucked–literally. And that’s horrible because everyone out there… Who fucking wishes people everything they dream of, needs also be with them during their worst times!”

The girl who had an entirely black appearance said with a stern face. She was an emo-girl without a doubt. And all of her tattoos explained that she was probably immune to pain by now.

“Yeah. The world is fucked up. But hey, at least good things are happening to us!” the other girl said with a shrug and sat close by to her in the bed.

“Yeah, like what? Is my girlfriend dumping me today? And me sulking here while listening to your rants about… What again? Your video?” She asked in a very rude manner.

The irony of the entire situation was how they hadn’t been friends for so long, and the girl who got dumped walked right into the other girl whose video is trending, and now the tables have changed.

“Alright! Suck it up, we’re going to watch something new and spicy!”

“What are we gonna watch, Adri?”

Adriana groaned at her tone. She was already prepared and ready to spend some time alone now that she was done with her work—video. It was one of those moments in her life where she was destined to celebrate her little achievements, by taking herself on a little date.

“Batman; The Dark Knight. I heard the reviews are four point eight for two days in a row. And all the critics have insanely appreciated every perception of the movie. Christian Bale, and this hit actor now, Freddy is so good. I don’t see any more reasons!” she said and got her bag in her hand.

“I sometimes wonder what straight people do-”

“Anna!”

Adri yelled Anna’s name and the latter just smiled for the first time while they walked out of the door.

-

The screen in front of them had been playing the movie for minutes now, and ever from the start, the crowd was hooked on the story and what was playing in front of them.

Everyone had their mouths opened, and Adri and Anna had different reactions to what they were watching.

“I never knew this movie could be so good. I didn’t even watch the first movie as I thought it was shitty and had some superhero shit. But I remember how good the reviews and the buzz was,” Adri whispered to Anna who nodded without replying more.

Anna was someone who would always have her back. The main reason for it was how she realised no matter how strong of a front Adri put forward, she was vulnerable and was someone who felt emotions deep down her heart.

People like that often get crushed in the real world, which is also why Adri had a tough front—A front which she so badly tried to hide in front of Anna, but the girl always sees through her.

With the sudden emotions that swirled her insides, she gave her a single glance and saw how focused she was on the screen.

Adri looked at the screen and had her mouth open for the rest of the movie.

………

“I've put every known money launderer in Gotham behind bars. But the mob is still getting its money out. I think you and your "friend" have found the last game in town and you're trying to hit 'em where it hurts: their wallets. Bold. You gonna count me in?” Dent questioned.

Gordon, who listened to him, replied, “In this town, the fewer people know something, the safer the operation.”

“Gordon, I don't like that you've got your special unit, and I don't like that it's full of cops I investigated at internal affairs. 18.”

“If I didn't work with cops you'd investigate while you were making your name at I.A.- I'd be working alone. I don't get political points for being an idealist- I have to do the best I can with what I have.”

Dent looked at Gordon. Considering how to proceed

“You want me to back warrants for search and seizure on five banks without telling me who we're after?” Dent asked after a pause.

“I can give you the names of the banks.”

“Well, that's a start. I'll get you your warrants. But I want your trust.”

Gordon rose from where he was, “You don't have to sell me, Dent. We all know you're Gotham's white knight.”

Dent grinned listening to his words, “I hear they've got a different nickname for me down at M.C.U..”

[At Cinema H. J. Hall movie Theatre - New York City]

A bunch of surgeons, right after their shift, looked at the billboard that had something that caught their eye as soon as they got out of the hospital.

On the screen, there was Batman. With his mask on. His eyes were on the city—Gotham. From a little distance, Joker was seen.

The shot was perfect. It gave the right amount of chills for any Batman fan, and the perfect amount of temptation for anyone who is not a fan.

“What is that?” Person 1 asked, looking at the billboard.

Not every day do they get to have a little holiday and a walk down the street with happy thoughts in their mind. And that explains their job on several levels. The amount of people dying in a public hospital is not close to a joke.

“Batman; The Dark Knight. I heard that it's better than any of the superhero movies out there. Like, the first movie was released some time ago. Yet, that’s not the deal, mate. The first movie was entirely about the hero–Bruce Wayne, a.k.a Batman’s origin. And in this— see that joker over there? It’s all about them!” Person 2 said with a thick British accent.

The five people looked at each other knowing what each one of them was talking about.

Every time they get a weekend off, or something similar to that, it helped them take off stress the whole day.

“Nat is waiting for me, home. I don’t think I can come to the theatre today. But you know I want to-” He said, shrugged, and started walking away.

“Didn’t that patient die today? I don’t think he’s fine…”

“Yes man, we’ve been working for seven years, and with time the only thing I’ve learned is how to avoid and hide the shitty thoughts.”

“Max! Come back! Max! Hey!”

One of the people in the group called loud for Max to hear. It hadn’t been easy for him throughout the day.

The first operation itself was a failure. And then onwards, he had to hold his breath for the other operations that took place.

He turned back to see his friends, and asked, “What?”

They still were far away.

The night sky above them, and the busy streets with people just passing not knowing what the other human opposite to them is going through.

Among a crowd like that, Max felt as if the people who called him were special. And all his thoughts were spot-on considering he was the newbie to the group.

“We can call Natasha to be here, we all can call our wives, girlfriends—and you can call your crush finally maybe? Oh fuck, I forgot she’s still at work. But yeah, we all can have a good time! Come back!” the same person replied with so much intensity in his voice.

The cold wind made Max shiver.

“Let’s go inside,” he said and walked behind them.

THE DARK KNIGHT

The thick black screen focused onto zoom, as the daylight cut off it.

Moving over the towers of downtown Gotham... Closing in on an office building... On a large window... Which SHATTERS to reveal…. A man holding the joker's face in his hand. It was a mask.

A man in a clown mask holding a smoking silenced pistol ejects a shell casing. That looked Dopey. He turned to a second man, Happy, also in a clown mask, who stepped forward with a cable launcher, aimed at a lower roof across the street, and fired a cable across. Dopey secures the line to an I-beam line- clamped on- sent a kit bag out then stepped the window...

“I already feel like this is going to be fucking worthy of all the shitty days I’ve had, and shitty days ahead! To us, surgeons,” Max whispered.

In his head, he continuously kept thinking how some people are dying to go home and have a peaceful nap instead of watching something dark as this—-based on reviews. But for Max, with his friends and wife, everything was right beside him.

‘This better is fucking worth it’ he thought.
