Chapter 3 – Opening the Spiritual Aperture

Lu Ye didn’t rest for too long. There was a sword stuck in his leg and the severe pain was upsetting his mental state.

He was also worried about the location of the injury; if it had made life-threatening damage, it would all be over.

So after taking a breather for a brief moment, he began to check the wound. He tore open the clothing at the injured location, and after examining it carefully he breathed a sigh of relief.

It looked tragic, but it was actually just a minor flesh wound.

He didn’t remove the sword right away because after doing so he would face a lot of blood loss. If he didn’t deal with it properly, he might faint in a short time.

He tore off his clothes, tied them into long strips, and fastened them tightly from the base of his thigh. He also completely tore the clothes on the injured area, revealing the location of the wound.

Then he cast his eyes on the waist of Manager Yang’s corpse, where there was a palm-sized cloth bag.

Lu Ye recognized this thing. Cultivators called it a storage bag.

The healing pills that Manager Yang gave him before and the long sword stuck in his leg were all taken out by Manager Yang from this storage bag.

The storage bag of a cultivator generally stored all of their belongings.

Lu Ye pulled Manager Yang’s body over, took off the storage bag around his waist, looked carefully, and was amazed.

There seemed to be a lot of space inside the small bag so it could no doubt hold a lot of things.

Lu Ye had been in Kyushu for more than a year. Although he didn’t know much about cultivation itself, he had heard a lot about the cultivation world.

Apparently every cultivator’s storage bag had a mysterious invisible lock which only the cultivator could open. Even if other people stole the storage bag, there would be no way to open it easily unless there they had a special means to break the lock.

The cultivators call that kind of lock a restriction!

The storage bag in his hand looked like a cloth pouch, but it was actually made of an unknown animal skin. Lu Ye secretly prayed in his heart that this storage bag would not be locked.

Lu Ye tried to open the bag, his anxious heart beating in anticipation…

Soon, there was joy on his face. The bag was not locked, and his hands had already touched some of the contents inside the bag.

As expected, when he suddenly found himself in trouble, Manager Yang had hurriedly taken out a long sword from the storage bag to meet his enemy. At that time, he was disturbed by the magnetic essence field, so there was no room to lock his storage bag.

   The contents were fully salvageable!

Lu Ye’s heart was set as he kept taking out the contents of the storage bag.

He was looking for the Qi and Blood pills as well as the healing pill that Manager Yang had given him before.

After he removed the sword, he would definitely lose blood. If he had the power of the Qi and Blood pills to replenish his qi and blood, the danger could be reduced. The healing pill was undoubtedly a good thing, and it was suitable for the current situation.

Soon, Lu Ye was surrounded by messy piles of things…

Bottles and jars, a lot of food items, a few huge water sacs, and even a few books and some toilet paper.

   Lu Ye was speechless.

But considering that Manager Yang had come for refuge, there was nothing wrong with him bringing more things.

He searched through the bottles, and quickly found the Qi and Blood pills and healing pills he needed.

There were a lot of Qi and Blood pills, ten bottles of them, and each bottle had 20 or 30 pills. There was only one bottle of healing pills, and there were only seven or eight pills left in the bottle.

Manager Yang was in charge of exchanging Qi and Blood pills at the mine. Naturally, he carried a lot of Qi and Blood pills on his person, which made Lu Ye happy to the utmost.

In the past, he needed to save up ten contribution points to exchange for a single Qi and Blood pill, and he only exchanged thirty pills in the entire year. Now he killed Manager Yang and got two to three hundred pills at once.

   He got rich quick!

He took out a Qi and Blood pill and prepared to eat it. Then, after thinking about it, he added two more and stuffed them into his mouth. It’s not that he didn’t want to eat more, but that it was useless to eat too many at once.

He took out the bottle of healing pills again and took out a single pill.

Then, he grabbed a huge water sac, untied the mouth of the sac, drank two mouthfuls, and then cleaned his wound with the clean water.

A feeling of coolness came from the injury. The sensation made Lu Ye’s forehead ooze sweat.

After the wound was cleaned up, Lu Ye took out another healing pill and put it aside for later use.

He had done everything he needed to do to prepare so he took a deep breath, grabbed the hilt of the long sword with one hand, and yanked it out.

At this moment, Lu Ye’s whole body was shaking, but he still grit his teeth without screaming.

Without any delay, he hurriedly picked up the healing pill that he had placed next to him, crushed it with his hands into powder, and scattered it on the wound.

He knows that this type of healing pill can be taken orally, but he doesn’t know if it can be used externally as well; he can only give it a try.

He untied the clothing fastened to the base of his thigh and bandaged the wound.

After a while, Lu Ye was almost wet with sweat. He lay directly on the ground, not wanting to move, and gradually passed out.

When he woke up again, he didn’t know how much time had passed. He struggled to get up, leaned against the rock wall, and used his hands to press around the thigh wound.

There was pain, but there was no inflammation.

Luckily, it seemed that the healing pill could indeed be used both orally and externally. Since the most dangerous period had passed, Lu Ye finally felt relieved.

His stomach grumbled. Before meeting Manager Yang, Lu Ye hadn’t eaten for most of the day. The ore that was originally planned to be handed over in exchange for food had been left near an entrance of the mine tunnels. Unexpectedly, he had been forced into the depths of the mine by Manager Yang and had engaged in a deadly fight, ultimately being wounded in the end.

Fortunately, he had found a lot of food in Manager Yang’s storage bag. Lu Ye took a piece of dried beast meat from it, and ate it with the clean water from the sac.

The feeling of hunger faded slowly. The place he was in currently was almost completely inaccessible so there was no danger for the time being. Lu Ye gradually became interested in Manager Yang’s belongings.

While eating, he began to check what he had previously taken out of Manager Yang’s storage bag.

He knew about the Qi and Blood pills and the healing pills, but he hadn’t seen some of the others before and didn’t know their uses. Some of the pills had a pungent smell, which was obviously not anything beneficial to intake.

Putting these pills aside, Lu Ye picked up a book and opened it. As he looked at it using the swaying fire light nearby, he became excited.

It seemed that Manager Yang had a more passionate side to his personality. This book was not only rich in content, but also in pictures and texts. He didn’t know who painted it, but it was really brilliant and lifelike…

At the moment, he was mentally exhausted and physically weak, so it wasn’t suitable to look at this thing.  He tossed it aside, and picked up another one. There were words on the cover of this book, and when he took a closer look under the light, it turned out to be a biography of a sword sage.

Lu Ye was interested and turned a few pages, but found that this thing was a storybook.

Throwing down the book, Lu Ye picked up a third one. After reading the words on the cover clearly, his heartbeat slowed for a while.

Free and Unfettered Golden Cicada Secret Art!

He quickly opened it to see, his expression gradually becoming excited.

This was actually a practice technique! Like the first book, it was easy to understand with pictures and texts, and it seemed to be the cultivation art of Manager Yang himself.

After getting excited, Lu Ye realized a very real problem again.

He hadn’t activated his spiritual aperture yet, so even if he had such a technique in front of him, it was useless.

He sighed slightly, and put down the Free and Unfettered Golden Cicada Secret Art.

Since he had no way to cultivate, it was useless to look at it more. Over the past year, he had tried several times to activate his spiritual aperture, but he still had nothing to show for it.

After a moment of being depressed, Lu Ye picked up Manager Yang’s storage bag again. There were still some things in it that had not been taken out before.

He reached in and took them out one by one.

Nothing of immediate value was found anymore but there were many rare ores, including several fist-sized magnetic essence ores.

Manager Yang should have kept these ores privately, but Lu Ye didn’t know what the importance of them was.

After mining here for a year, Lu Ye had mined a lot of rare minerals, so he was basically familiar with these ores. Even if he didn’t know what they were called or what they were used for, he had seen them all. That is, until he took out a dark red piece of ore the size of a human head…

He had never seen anything like this before and he didn’t know which slave had mined it, but it had ended up in Manager Yang’s hands.

It was a bit strange, but such things must be rare and expensive; Lu Ye had never seen this thing, so it must be of great value.

Just as Lu Ye was about to put down the ore, his spirit suddenly trembled, and then a vague shadow appeared in front of him, turning into a tree.

   It was the shadow tree!

Lu Ye was amazed. One condition for the appearance of the shadow tree was that he needed to pay attention, and it did not appear every time. Sometimes it appeared, sometimes it didn’t.

This time the shadow tree appeared by itself.

Just when Lu Ye didn’t know why, the vague shadow tree suddenly grew roots which plunged into the dark red ore in his hand.

In the next instant, the ore made a breaking and snapping sound and immediately split open.

A bit of orange light was imprinted in Lu Ye’s eyesight. He was startled to find that after the ore cracked open, there was a fire inside it!

He subconsciously tried to throw the fire out, but the fire stuck to his hands and he couldn’t throw it away.

After a brief panic, Lu Ye realized that the dark red stone’s change should be related to the shadow tree.

What made Lu Ye feel weird was that he didn’t even feel burnt.

The orange flame was shrinking rapidly, as if it had been absorbed by something. In just a few breaths’ time, the fire disappeared before Lu Ye’s eyes.

Just when he was greatly surprised, a scorching force was suddenly surging from his dantian region, and that force drew his own qi and blood energy to converge towards that location.

Unspeakable pain came. Lu Ye felt that his lower abdomen was stirred by a tremendous force so great it was as if it were about to tear him apart completely.

He couldn’t help but groan, and his clothes were instantly wet with sweat.

Just when he thought he was going to die, a small noise came from his lower abdomen. At this moment, he felt that something in him was broken.

The pain disappeared quickly and in Lu Ye’s eyes a wonderful change had taken place in the whole world.

He gave birth to an unreal feeling. He felt the area around his dantian in his lower abdomen, and clearly noticed that there was a marvellous power gathering there.

  A huge surprise overwhelmed him…

He had actually opened his spiritual aperture!
