“Da Bai, don’t just stand there. Come and eat.” Wang Xiao Mie called them to have breakfast.

Baiyu stared in surprise, “Who is Da Bai?”

Wen Feng Jin glared at him.

Baiyu withered, “I’m Da Bai.”

[TN: 大白 Da Bai means cabbage but the immediate translation of the word itself is big white]

Wang Xiao Mie tried hard to hold back his laughter.

After setting up the table, he poured a bowl of porridge for Wen Feng Jin and himself and another for Baiyu. Frankly, he did not find Baiyu hateful. On the contrary, he was quite fond of him. Just like those silly college roommates, he felt that Baiyu was inexplicably sincere.

Seeing that there was something to eat, Bai Yu’s eyes lit up. After shrinking back for a while, he still decided to come out of the blanket and sat by the table then picked up the bowl and began eating.

At the breakfast table, Wen Feng Jin, whose certain desires were not fulfilled, was giving them free air conditioning while eating.

Wang Xiao Mie, who was freezing, picked a piece of vegetable and fed it to his Xiao Wenzi, “Come, have some vegetables.”

Wen Feng Jin looked at the off-putting food for three seconds and stopped releasing cold air. He opened his mouth to take in the food but continued to bite on the tip of the chopsticks. His red lips were slightly ajar and the powerful teeth held on to the chopsticks.

He rested his face on his palm and looked at Wang Xiao Mie.

Half a minute later, Wang Xiao Mie blushed and mumbled repeatedly, “I get it, I get it, I get it!”

Wen Feng Jin released the chopsticks and his expression lightened up. Baiyu watched them as he was filled up with porridge together with a serving of dog food.

After the meal, Baiyu took the initiative to help them clean up and his fear had also disappeared.

“Well, thank you for saving me and taking me in. I will not divulge anything about you two. It’s getting late, I should get going now.” Baiyu picked up the blanket and folded it neatly before placing it on the sofa. He scratched his head and said awkwardly to Wang Xiao Mie and Wen Feng Jin, “Are my torn clothes still around? My cash and phone are still in it. This place is quite far from my house, I can’t ride a cab without money…”

“Don’t worry, those clothes are still here.” Wang Xiao Mie ran to get a bag from the bathroom, “Your clothes were all bloodied so I gathered them together in this bag, see if anything’s missing.”

“Thank you, thank you.”

Baiyu opened the bag and flipped his clothes over. A few pieces of rags fell out and an iron rod dropped on the ground with a clang.

Baiyu quickly picked it up and put it back in the bag.

“What’s that?” Wang Xiao Mie asked curiously.

“This? This is a weapon I made according to an ancient book. Due to a lack of materials and tools, I could only craft something of this caliber. But don’t underestimate it. Look,” Baiyu took out the black rod and showed it off to Wang Xiao Mie.

“Raise it up like this and aim at the cloth… Those rags were stained with the scent of the bad guy from before, so…”

When the iron rod hit its target, a sizzling sound could be heard as though something had been dissipated by the blow. When the iron rod was removed, the blood-stained cloth remained unchanged but something was definitely removed from it!

Zhen Bei’s weapon!

Wang Xiao Mie’s pupils contracted. He turned to look at Wen Feng Jin who now had a dark expression.

Baiyu, who did not notice their changes, giggled and continued to boast, “What do you think? Isn’t it incredible? Hehehe. Right now the iron rod could only do so much but I’ve read from the notes left by my grandfather and father, it said that my grandfather once made these weapons of the highest quality. Black is the weakest while the gold ones are capable of disintegrating those things with just one blow!”

Baiyu was still praising his baby with pride when Wen Feng Jin pinched his neck and pinned him against the wall.

“Cough! You, what are you doing…” Baiyu’s feet were lifted off the ground while his veins and eyeballs were bulging out, “Let me go! Help!”

Wen Feng Jin was unmoved. His eyes turned scarlet and his voice turned ice-cold, asking him word by word, “Do you know Zhen Bei?”

Back in the underground palace, Zhen Bei had shot Wang Xiao Mie twice and almost killed Wen Feng Jin. Although he had gotten what he deserved in the end, Wen Feng Jin was still unable to swallow the anguish. If Wang Xiao Mie had not stopped him, he would’ve fed Zhen Bei to Muyi and the others.

“Feng Jin!” Wang Xiao Mie was startled and quickly stepped forward to grab Wen Feng Jin’s arm. Da Bai’s eyes are turning white!

“Don’t be hasty, he might be innocent!” An idea popped into his head and hurriedly asked Baiyu, “What’s your relationship with Bai Cheng?”

Baiyu breathed with much difficulty as he tried to speak, “Bai Cheng, Bai Cheng is my grandfather…”

“I knew it…” Wang Xiao Mie was starting to have a headache. This was too much of a coincidence, so much so that it was as though someone had planned for this to happen.

“Let him go… He’s not the one who gave Zhen Bei the weapons, it was probably his grandfather.”

Wen Feng Jin glanced at Baiyu who could not hold on much longer. He snorted with disdain and loosened his grip.

Cough! Cough!

Baiyu knelt on the ground and coughed violently. He looked up at Wen Feng Jin and asked with caution, “How did you know my grandfather’s name? Have you seen him?! When?”

Wang Xiao Mie sighed seeing him staring at them with large expectant eyes. He nudged the immensely unsatisfied Wen Feng Jin, “Feng Jin, go bring Kai Ming over.”

Wen Feng Jin did not move and glared at Baiyu sitting on the ground.

“It’s ok, don’t worry, I’ll be careful.” Wang Xiao Mie reassured him and only then did Wen Feng Jin go upstairs to fetch Kai Ming.

It’s not that he wanted to doubt anyone but this was too much of a coincidence. They had made inquiries about the weapons and someone related to it was brought to them. It was as though a pair of eyes were watching them in the dark.

And after witnessing Zhen Bei’s inconceivable face-change, Wang Xiao Mie was truly once bitten twice shy. For all he knew, this person could be another big boss in a good man’s skin.

Wang Xiao Mie squatted down. Rubbing the back of his neck, he said, “We have not met your grandfather but we had seen a strange hammer-like weapon in golden metal. Someone had almost killed us with it.”

The seemingly always smiling face turned solemn as the layer of kindness faded from his eyes and was replaced with coldness.

Wang Xiao Mie looked straight at Baiyu and said, “After that, we found out that the maker of that weapon was called Bai Cheng.”

“Don’t blame me for overthinking,” Baiyu was in a cold sweat as Wang Xiao Mie continued, “I’m now no longer a good person, I have to protect the person I care for.”

What a sudden change in attitude!

Baiyu looked at Wang Xiao Mie morphing from the affectionate boy in a cooking apron to a man whose eyes were keen and sharp as a blade, very much similar to the man just now!

Baiyu opened his mouth but did not say anything. In his impression, his grandpa was a kind and loving man but he couldn’t be certain whether he had helped others to harm the person in front of him.

So he chose to stay silent.

Seeing the big guy wilt before his eyes, the menacing expression on Wang Xiao Mie’s face faded.

Damn, it’s really not fun to copy this skill from Wen Feng Jin, staring like this hurts my eyes.

“It’s all right, you don’t have to worry. Even if your grandfather had made those weapons, as long as he’s not involved in the hunt, we’ll still let you go.”

Baiyu’s eyes lit up under his black skin, “Really?! You’ll really let me go?” Instead of murdering me to vent your anger?

“Of course. After all, we’re not evildoers.” Having said that, Wang Xiao Mie immediately felt that something wasn’t right with this sentence.

Just then, Wen Feng Jin came down with Kai Ming in his hand.

When Wang Xiao Mie received Kai Ming, it was scorchingly hot. If Kai Ming could speak, it would definitely scream at Wen Feng Jin to stay the hell away from it!

After waiting for Kai Ming to cool down, Wang Xiao Mie plastered the blade on Baiyu’s face.

Baiyu froze, “What’re you doing?”

Wang Xiao Mie asked, “Is it hot?”

Baiyu shook his head, “No, your house has air conditioning.”

Wang Xiao Mie was dumbfounded, “… Is the dagger hot?”

“No, it’s quite cool. How can a dagger be hot?” Baiyu asked as he sat in a daze with Kai Ming attached to his face.

… Looks like there is no problem here.

“It’s ok now, Da Bai, we can trust you.” Wang Xiao Mie pulled him up, “Now, can you tell us about your grandfather?”

…..

Li Man Man had just completed her shift which had started at 2 a.m. On top of being vexed and tired, her boyfriend had recently given her the cold shoulder.

Watching the screen of her phone go dark, Li Man Man cursed, “Bastard dared to ignore my texts!”

At the front step of her house, she angrily tossed the phone into her bag and pulled out a pink hairball keyring.

Behind her came a clang, the sound of something dropping on the ground.

Li Man Man turned around and saw that on the front step of the house opposite lay a golden ring. Her eyes widened as she picked the ring up.

The ring was plain in design but on the inside was a finely engraved ‘bai’ word.

This shine and the engraving, this has to be real gold!

Li Man Man excitedly spread out her fingers and tried the ring on each one. After finding the perfect fit, she rubbed the surface of the ring happily.

Bai? She remembered that the person living here has the last name of Bai but who cares, finders keepers!

It’s your own fault for losing such a valuable item. You only have yourself to blame.

Besides, the ring looked simple while exuding a beautiful shine, clearly it was meant to be worn by someone with beautiful fingers like hers.

She wore the ring unquestioningly and entered the house, thinking to herself that one of these days, she should visit a jewelry shop to have the inscription erased.

….

At 4 p.m, Baiyu was walking with Wang Xiao Mie and Wen Feng Jin wearing clothes that Wang Xiao Mie had lent to him. Wang Xiao Mie walked between him and Wen Feng Jin who was not at all shy to hide his disgust for the dirty path they were currently traversing on. Someone had left their withered flowers and cardboard outside, the whole place reeked of a pungent sour smell, the walls were drawn with ugly graffitis decorated with gum and other substances, and even the handrails were covered with a thick layer of dust.

Wen Feng Jin’s brows were tightly wrinkled together. He walked behind and held his silver hair in one hand while the other was used to lift Wang Xiao Mie’s swaying black hair which had almost swept over the dust.

“I didn’t expect you guys to come with me.” Baiyu was panting as he climbed the stairs, “Up ahead is my place. My grandpa’s notes are all there.”

Wang Xiao Mie had an inexplicable suspicion in his heart. He couldn’t leave this matter alone and decided to follow Baiyu home.

“I also did not expect you to agree to lend us your grandfather’s notes. Isn’t it your family secret?”

“Hehe, that’s not a big deal. Honestly, I don’t understand a lot of what’s written in it. If you both can figure anything out, I would in turn like to learn from you!”

“…”

Arriving at the door, Baiyu took a deep breath before opening it. His house was roughly 60 square meters with one bedroom and two living rooms which had been neatly tidied.

After entering, Baiyu went straight to the bedroom and brought out a paper box. Inside were some miscellaneous items and several books which looked like it was written in ancient scriptures.

“Feng Jin…” Before Wang Xiao Mie could finish his sentence, Wen Feng Jin had already picked up a book and began reading.

Wang Xiao Mie raised his hand to rub his neck and Baiyu inadvertently looked over. For a quick second, he thought that he had seen something red flash by from Wang Xiao Mie’s excessively white neck and disappear in the blink of an eye.

Was he seeing things? Baiyu scratched his head questioningly.
