Chapter 9

With just one big smile painted on Iellie’s face, the pain of looking for a cafe all night melted down like snow as the sun shines its light onto.

How her happy and excited voice makes him feel, she probably doesn’t even realize. Zachary laughed.

Finally, the two people arrived at what seemed to be the most expensive cafe in the downtown area. Seeing the elegant and stunning interior, fluffy sofas, low tables, and luxury teacups, Iellie was very delighted.

“Wow, really this…”

Her light green eyes twinkled brightly as she watched the food served on the table.

Layered cakes, scones, macaroons, and sandwiches on a three-tiered trolley were enough to captivate her.

“How did you find a place like this? Zachary, it’s amazing!”

“Do you like it?”

“Yes! It’s the best. It felt as though it was too pretty!”

Iellie continued to praise Zachary to her heart’s content. To be honest, she, who was poor, had never been to a store like this. Even in her previous life, she went to franchise cafes often but it was not such a full-fledged specialty store like this.

“Can I eat them?”

“Of course, I got it all for you.”

Since he got the information that she likes sweet food. So, instead of worrying, Zachary chose to order all the desserts.

Picking up a fork eagerly, Iellie cut a large piece of the cake. Her face, which opened her mouth wide, loosens after the first bite went into her mouth. After sipping the milk tea, she throws admiration blissfully.

“Oh, this is really delicious!”

Even the milk tea with plenty of sugar suited Iellie’s taste. She said a heartfelt greeting. “If I hadn’t married you, I wouldn’t have been able to come to a store like this. Thank you so much.”

Hearing her words, his heart started to pound again without a remedy. Zachary flushed his cheeks, feeling pleased.

“You’re not eating?”

“Well, I don’t like sweet food.”

…Then, did he deliberately choose this cafe for her?

Iellie’s liking for Zachary rose once again. She began to cut the pecan pie into pieces and smiled mischievously as she tried to put a piece into his mouth.

“Now, ah~ Do it.”

“…Len?”

“Hurry, my arm hurts.” She said as she shook her arm gently.

Zachary, who had a bright red face like a ripe tomato, took the pie through his mouth and ate it quietly. ‘Wow, he’s so cute today, isn’t he?’ Looking at him happily, she opened her mouth without thinking.

“Hmm, if you think about this… it’s surprisingly worth getting married.”

“What do you mean by that?”

‘Is it worth getting married? If so, did you mean you didn’t have any intention of getting married at first?’

The feeling of excitement from the boy fell to the depths of the floor. Zachary bit his lips gently. Now that he thought about it, Iellie was forced to marry him under the pressure from the Imperial Family. Then, how does she feel now…

“Yes, I didn’t intend to do anything like marriage at first.”

Thud. His heart fell rapidly. Zachary’s pupils shake. Still, he asked her back, pretending to be calm. “Oh, yeah? Don’t you ever want to marry?”

“Of course, it’s tiring to get married.”

It could be because the memories from her previous life, where marriage was taken for granted for women to enter society remained, that now, Iellie did not put much significance to the thought of marriage.

If she can live well by herself, then why should she get married? That was what her thought was.

‘Well, but marriage with Zachary is not bad…’ Handsome, kind, and very rich. Although the father-in-law is unlucky, her husband is adorable, so everything is alright. Even if it feels like caring for a younger brother, still.

Suddenly, Zachry asked urgently.

“Do you regret marrying me?”

“Huh? No, what…”

‘What’s wrong with him again?’ He had a quivering face. Iellie attempts to appease him somehow and opens her mouth.

“Well, there are situations that cannot be helped in life.”

“Then, what if… what if there wasn’t that unavoidable situation…”

As his trembling eyes stared at Iellie. Zachary, who hesitated for a moment, asked like a sigh. “…You wouldn’t have married me?”

The agonizing answer seemed to have an inverse effect. The embarrassed Iellie hardened.

“Uh, um…”

It was true, but if she answers that way, Zachary might really cry.

“Well, that’s…”

“…”

However, his shocked face was painted visibly. He replied as he bowed his head. “…No. Even if you think so, there’s nothing I can say.”

Oh, that fragile mentality…

Iellie peered at him with a desperate face. All of a sudden, Zachary meets her gaze.

“Instead, I’ll do my best to make you satisfied.”

“Huh? Uh…”

‘All right, if that makes you feel better.’ As she stared at him, Iellie shrugged her shoulders. “I wasn’t thinking of not getting married at all. It may happen if the conditions are right, I supposed.”

“Really? What was the condition?”

At that moment, it felt as though a fire bounces from Zachary’s eyes. She continued speaking in a slightly mischievous tone.

“Hmm… Beauty that completely captures my taste would be good. Good body, good character, and very rich?”

“…”

‘That condition, can I really fit it?’ As his face is stained with despair, Iellie sighs.

“That’s you.”

“…What?”

“You are handsome, sweet, and very rich.”

“…”

Zachary’s eyes filled with questions. It was because he never thought of himself that way.

Moments later, Iellie, who had thrown Zachary into confusion, got up from her seat.

“So, shall we continue this date?”

“…Len.”

The expression of the boy who gazed at her face quietly became determined for a moment. He opened his mouth as if making a promise.

“You are a very precious person to me.”

“Zachary?”

“I will try to be a good husband who respects and cares for you. So, that’s why…”

Iellie could feel his fear of being abandoned evidently in that desperate expression. Feeling sorry for him, she said without knowing.

“I won’t let you go.”

“…”

Zachary bit his lips gently. What she says and does without much thought. Iellie would probably never know that all of that had saved him.

She reached out her hand towards the boy.

“So, stop worrying about useless things, and let’s go to the festival together.”

Closing his hand and squeezing it tightly, she grinned. As always, it’s warm. The light green eyes always manage to calm him down.

“You always have so much passion.”

Iellie’s next goal was a street snack vendor. She trotted across to the street vendor.

‘After all, the truth of life is sweet and salty. I ate a lot of sweet cakes, so it’s time to get something salty.’ Recalling the truth that had been inscribed in her heart from her previous life, Iellie observed the street snacks with a hawk’s gaze.

“Oh, chicken skewer!”

“How about a chicken skewer, young lady?”

The street vendor owner’s eyes met with Iellie’s with a smile, and she lifted the spiced brush that had been applied with seasoning.

As if she was possessed, she stared at the chicken skewers ripening.

Oil dripping over a charcoal fire, fatty chicken skins that boil over and dry over a fire, and chickens that look soft!

“Two… No, four, please!”

Yes, when would you eat a whole lot like this if not at times like these? She made a self-justification thought inside her mind.

“Four? Aren’t you full?”

Rather, Zachary was surprised and glanced back at Iellie. She nodded her head swiftly with a coy look. “Originally, the stomach for sweet foods and the other foods are separate.”

“Is that so?”

“Of course. Shouldn’t you and I eat two at a time?”

At her confident answer, he laughed in vain. Well, it was all right because she only needs to be happy with him. The owner asked.

“There is a side grilled with salt and seasoning, which one would you like?”

“One is grilled with salt, and the other is grilled with seasoning, please.”

“You know what, the lady knows as well.”

The owner of the street vendor, with a smile, held a chicken skewer to Iellie. Curiosity filled the open green eyes as they stared at the chicken skewer with salty seasoning. Right then…

“Lady, buy this one, too!”

Another street vendor waved and shouted to Iellie, who had eaten a chicken skewer with seasoning neatly. It was a street vendor that heated a large iron plate, topped with plenty of butter, and roasted whole potatoes.

Attracted by the savory smell of butter, she stood in front of the street vendor immediately. The owner fries the potatoes brilliantly and talks to her.

“This is really delicious. I’ll give you a lot, so try a cup of it, okay?”

“Yes, then, I’ll have the smallest one, please.”

The street vendor then held a cup that seemed to be just about the size of Iellie’s palm and piled up a number of potatoes on it. The amount was overflowing.

“I don’t give this much normally, but I give it because the lady is pretty.” Saying so, the owner who placed a wooden toothpick said softly. Iellie, too, smiled brightly at the owner.

“Oh, thank you.”

“Have fun at the festival!”

Eventually, holding salt-grilled chicken skewers in one hand and a cup of whole buttered potato, on the other hand, Iellie began to watch the festival. It has been a long time since she saw so many people.

“How is it, delicious?”

“Yes.”

Zachary softly affirmed. With food in her hands, she made a playful expression.

“For some reason, since you are the successor to the duke, I thought you couldn’t eat this kind of food.”

“That’s because it’s much better than combat food.”

“…”

At the answer, she became solemn. Zachary burst into laughter and took a piece of the potato.

“Whoa, just looking around like this is really fun,” Iellie muttered satisfactorily. She had such an amazing day all day long, and he was delighted about it.

“It’s pretty. Asha’s flowers, the lights of the fire, the street vendors…”

She spent quite some time at Cafe Laurent and tasted street food one by one.

The darkness was spreading out before she knew it. The colors from above the sky were mixed, as if a painting of navy blue painted on yellow gold and red silk. One by one, the lights began to light up in the dark. It was like a star floating on the ground.

“…Amazing.” The boy mumbled. Like a deep blue glow on the surface of the sea, emotions fluttered in his eyes.

“What?”

“Even though they live in a city where the cursed Heir Apparent will rule, everyone looks happy.”

Whispers flowed out from his lips. Until now, his world had been the cold duke’s castle. The duke’s cold words hang in his ears.

[ ‘You owe it to the people. They would be ruled by a monster.’ ]

That’s why he never came out on purpose. He was afraid that people would despise him, but everyone seemed very happy. Children burst into laughter at the cheerful music. People hold hand in hand and enjoy a festive evening.

At that moment, Iellie grabbed Zachary’s hand tightly and muttered gently.

“All of those people, thanks to you, can be this happy.”

“…Thanks to me?”

“Yes, because you are protecting those people.”

The girl with a gorgeous beauty like Asha’s flower closed her eyes and beamed softly. Long pink eyelashes are finely folded as a pale shadow is formed over the white eyes. At that moment, the boy smelled a familiar scent.

‘Asha flower…’

Sweet and refreshing Asha flower scent. It was a familiar scent from the girl. And it was a scent that the boy instinctively fell in love with.

The master of magic in his lineage, the Silver Dragon, has long loved.

‘A person who can talk to someone like me while smiling like this…’

It was only Iellie.

But then, the light green eyes gazed straight at him.

“Forget all the fuss people say about you. Just trust me.”

“Len.”

“You’re not a monster,” Iellie said with strength. She hated that Zachary thought of himself as ‘cursed’ or ‘a monster.’

Zachary met her gaze with his. The dark blue eyes shone like jewels in the dark.
