Chapter 29: I’ll jump C position for you (1)

“Taotao! Taotao!”
A group of anxious players was gathered around Ruan Tao, who had collapsed on the ground. They had just been making their final preparations, who would have known Ruan Tao would suddenly faint as she reached the step and fall.
Everyone was terrified. Although the stairs were not high, Ruan Tao always had a weak constitution. No one could tell whether her fall was serious or not, and as she had fainted backstage, nobody was clear about the current situation.

Ruan Tao’s teammates were panicked and nervous, almost crying; not only were they worried about their captain but it was also their turn soon. Ruan Tao was injured and they didn’t know the gravity of it yet, what could they do?
Ruan Tao’s face was pale and she was on the ground, holding her ankle in pain. Her forehead was sweaty and her messy hair stuck to her face. She cut a sorry figure.
“It hurts!”
Ruan Tao gritted her teeth, the intense pain making her gasps and tears flowed out instinctively.

As soon as the director heard about the accident, he hurried to check the situation, and the medical team that had been on standby also rushed to Ruan Tao. After he confirmed she had injured her ankle, the doctor shook his head with a serious expression.
“It should be a sprain but she needs to go to the hospital to make sure there is no ligament damage or a fracture. In any case, she won’t be able to do any vigorous exercise in the next few days.”
After he was done speaking, the expressions of everyone around him sank, especially Ruan Tao’s teammates. Their faces became stiff and their bodies slightly trembled. What should they do now? The girls’ faces were pale and they were lost.
They wanted to ask for help but everyone was focused on the injured Ruan Tao. Nobody had time to care about their meltdown and they could only step aside in silence, to make way for the rest of the staff and let them send their captain to the hospital.

“Is Ruan Tao okay?”
“It’s okay, the body is the most important thing. It’s okay, it’s okay…”
After learning she could not go on stage, Ruan Tao burst into tears and could not stop. Her eyes were red and her voice was hoarse; she was holding her knees, a little pitiful.
The staff gathered around her and comforted her. They tried to calm her down and have her go to the hospital for treatment.
They had all seen her efforts these past few days. Perhaps it was because of her poor performance during the initial rating, but Ruan Tao had given all of herself for this stage. She had changed her usual sweet style for more difficult jazz. Even during training, she had practiced with weights and it was obvious to all she really wanted to recover from the last impression. Who would have thought she would have an accident just before going on stage? Her sadness was not difficult to imagine.
Ruan Tao was still crying and she shook her head. She tried to stand up but the pain on her ankle made her gasp; she couldn’t even put her foot down, let alone perform on stage.
No, no, why was this happening? Ruan Tao’s heart broke down. She had been rehearsing so seriously for so long, why such a stupid accident had to happen when it was almost over? Why ruin all of her hard work? She had been so serious, so hard-working, she had gotten up so early every morning to practice and had not returned to the dormitory until late at night, even when her teammates had tried to persuade her to rest. She had been so determined, why was she the one encountering such an incident? Thinking of this, the grievances, the unwillingness, and the sadness accumulated in her heart for days finally exploded and her tears became even more uncontrollable. She collapsed and wept bitterly, shocking everyone around her.

Amidst the chaos, nobody paid attention nor remembered Ruan Tao’s four teammates. They also had tears in their eyes but did not dare to cry; they did not want people to think they were just adding complications to this already messy situation.
“Are you also injured?”
At this moment, a petite girl came over with a first aid kit. It was Qiao Dai who had just come to help.
Because of the sudden incident, many employees had been sent to the scene to calm the audience. The backstage team was severely understaffed and some players who were done with their own stage had come to help, one after another.
“You are?”
Lin Xiaoxiao raised her head and took a look at Qiao Dai. Her tears were blurring her sight and she did not recognize it at first. After wiping them with a tissue, she finally realized Qiao Dai was the one standing in front of her and couldn’t help but be a little surprised.
“Qiao Dai? Why are you here? Didn’t you just finish your performance?”
Lin Xiaoxiao choked with sobs. She was not close with Qiao Dai but Lu Ying was and she indirectly had a good impression of her. Unfortunately, because she was teammates with Ruan Tao, she had not had the opportunity to chat with Qiao Dai yet.

Lin Xiaoxiao had not expected the first person to notice them would be Qiao Dai, who had nothing to do with them. Her mood was subtle for a while, she did know whether she was happy or wronged, but she couldn’t stop crying nonetheless.
Right now, everybody was concerned about Ruan Tao who was weeping on the ground, everyone trying to comfort the girl who had collapsed right before her stage. They were all encouraging her yet no one noticed the four girls in the corner who were going through the exact same breakdown. When everyone was consoling Ruan Tao like a little princess, only Qiao Dai had finally paid attention to this helpless group of girls, hiding in the corner just like little palace ladies.

At this moment, Lin Xiaoxiao couldn’t hold it anymore and cried. She stretched out her bruised arm to Qiao Dai and said: “It really hurts.”
Her snow-white arm had a scrape. When Ruan Tao had fallen down the stairs, she had instinctively pulled at Lin Xiaoxiao who had been pushed against the filming equipment.
Lu Ying joined Qiao Dai and when she saw her friend cry, her eyes became red too. She twitched her nose and pulled up Lin Xiaoxiao’s hand and said with some distress: “It’s okay, it’s just broken skin. Let’s disinfect it first.”
There were too many people there and there was no place for the girls to sit down and treat their wounds. Qiao Dai walked through the crowd, carrying the first aid kind while saying: “Make way! Make way!”
The girls were going to help Lin Xiaoxiao treat her wound outside. The uninjured members also wanted to find a more silent room to cry, so they wouldn’t be blamed for not caring about Ruan Tao. They were worried about their upcoming performance, but did anyone think about it? Ruan Tao was their C position! If another position was missing, they could have dealt with it, but what could they do without their center?

Qiao Dai kept on struggling and walking ahead, but the rest of the staff and contestants came in and gathered around Ruan Tao, with countless cameras standing aside, crowding the entire room.

“Director Ruan! Why are you here?”
The director was already panicking but when he saw a frowning middle-aged man standing in the doorway, his face became green.
Ruan Mingyi was a shareholder of Galaxy Media and Ruan Tao’s father. Because this was the first public performance, he had come to watch the show in person. What he had not expected was to hear news of Ruan Tao’s injury before even seeing her on stage and he had rushed over in a hurry.
The staff members glanced at each other, already guessing Ruan Mingyi’s intentions. Sure enough, as soon as he walked into the room, he said with anger: “I heard my daughter had an accident and that the injury was serious. What is your staff doing? Don’t you have safety measures?”
The director stepped forward to defend himself and the staff. After all, no one could have imagined she would fall down the stairs. The program team would pay more attention to it in the future, but in the meantime, Ruan Mingyi looked obviously displeased.

Ruan Mingyi frowned, his eyes sweeping across the scene indifferently. He looked at everyone like a suspect and when his gaze fell on Qiao Dai, his eyes jumped slightly but soon returned to normal. It was only a flash but Qiao Dai noticed his action. She used to live in a dangerous ocean, had she not been sensitive to everything around her, she would have already become prey to others. Therefore, when Ruan Mingyi had looked at her, she had clearly captured his reaction.
