“The noodles are ready, Tianxin. We can eat now.”
Ye Tianxin blinked her eyes and stopped her train of thought. “Okay.”
Li Qingcang sprinkled some spring onions onto the tomatoes and egg. The dish looked very delicious. They could not wait to start eating.
“Qingcang, the noodles smell so good. They look good too.” Ye Tianxin took one of the bowls and sat next to Li Qingcang at the dining table.
Li Qingcang placed a strand of Ye Tianxin’s hair behind her ears. “Try them and see if they taste as good.”
Ye Tianxin used her chopsticks to scoop up some of the noodles. She took a bite and nodded approvingly. There was a twinkle in her eyes. It was a very simple dish, but it warmed her heart. “Qingcang, you can open a restaurant.”
“All right. If I would lose my job one day, I will open a restaurant and name it Sunny Day.” It sounded like a combination of both their names.
“So, boss, does your restaurant need a lady boss?”
Li Qingcang grinned. “Yes, I need one.”
Both of them exchanged looks and laughed merrily. They felt happy and contented with each other, even if they were doing mundane things like cooking a meal. Ye Tianxin had a silly grin on her face, while Li Qingcang used his fingers to wipe off the tomato sauce from the corner of her mouth.
Li Qingcang asked. “Have you eaten enough?”
Ye Tianxin nodded. It was a very satisfying and enjoyable meal.
Li Qingcang went to wash the dishes after they had finished. Ye Tianxin helped to dry them before placing them back in the cupboard.
“Come on, Tianxin. I’ll show you the bedroom upstairs.”
Wu Tong had already prepared a set of clothes for Ye Tianxin and had placed them in Li Qingcang’s bedroom. She thought that Ye Tianxin may need to wash up and have a change of clothes.
There was a note at the door of Li Qingcang’s bedroom from his mother. It read, “Qingcang, you will sleep in the guest room tonight. Signed, Wu Tong.”
Li Qingcang immediately tore the note up and stuffed it into the pocket of his jeans before Ye Tianxin could read it. He opened the door only to end up shocked. His bed was covered with a pink bedsheet, decorated with lace. Someone had also placed a few dolls on the bed. He did not remember it looking like that when he left the house in the morning. Wu Tong had acted swiftly the minute she was upstairs.
Li Qingcang was embarrassed and turned to Ye Tianxin, “Tianxin, if you don’t like the color, I can change the bedsheet.”
Ye Tianxin immediately guessed that it was Wu Tong’s idea. Her lips curled into a smile. “It’s not a problem. I like the bedsheet. It’s very pretty. I used to dream about becoming a princess when I was young.”
“Princess?” Li Qingcang was amused. “Tell me about it. What kind of princess did you want to be?”
Ye Tianxin giggled. “I used to dream that I was a princess of some distant country. For some reason, I was separated from my parents when I was young. I believed that one day, they would find me and bring me home. I can live in a castle with many servants…”
Li Qingcang listened intently. However, Ye Tianxin realized she could not spin the story any further. She felt awkward thinking about her past again. She shuddered unconsciously. “Forget it. I don’t know how to continue with the story.” Even if she did dream of becoming a princess in the past, it was never realistic.
Li Qingcang stretched out his hands and pulled Ye Tianxin toward him.. He held her in his arms and whispered in a hoarse voice, “Tianxin, you are already my princess.”
