The rest of the month seemed to pass by like a light breeze. We were learning how to fight, correcting some of Izuku's and my understanding of applying force to specific areas, and then how to handle different situations like hostage negotiations and dealing with the police. It was definitely not what Izuku and I were expecting when we thought about attending the Hero Course. It was great!

Red Fury did her best to not disable us too often during our fights after school, too. Our favorite teacher kicked our asses and we loved her that much more because of it. She was of the same opinion as us that learning by doing was the best way to teach. Most people never really fought after learning how to do it, so they never learned to fight for real. They pulled their punches, didn't kick when an opportunity presented itself, or took advantage of their opponent's hesitation.

If I wasn't dating Ming occasionally, I was pretty sure that Red Fury would have been all over me. The glint she had in her eyes as we sparred was a real turn on for me. The way I didn't treat her like she was delicate as I hit and kicked her, even in her smaller form, made her growl with pleasure as we grappled.

She even let me get away with grabbing her ass once when I did it accidentally. She was floating horizontally in the air after I had delivered an uppercut to her chin, then I firmly planted my feet to grab her head and lower back... only it was the cheek of her very firm ass that I had in my hand.

I shoved her down into the ground as hard as I could in my haste to let her go as quickly as possible. The ground shook and we created a fairly large crater from the impact. After the dirt had settled, Red Fury rolled over to look up at me with lust and desire on her face. It only lasted for a second before she growled and her foot shot at me at super-speed. It connected with my stomach and launched me across the field.

The fight ended with my loss after that because she punched me three times in the head before I could blink and I passed out. Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe she didn't let me get away with it.

Izuku on the other hand, couldn't stop his chivalrous feelings for Red Fury when she took a particularly hard slam. That always made her angrier and she gave him extra bruises each and every time he hesitated on the follow-up attack. It made me laugh every time I saw it.

The last time it happened, Red Fury held him by his short green hair and slammed her fist into the side of his face. “That's for hesitating!” She said and then grinned at him as she punched him in the same place as hard as she could. “That's for flinching from the first punch!”

I was standing off to the side of the fighting area and laughed my ass off at the scene Izuku seemed to create almost unconsciously. He was just a bit too much like a boy scout to really get his hands dirty when it mattered. In fact, he was much more like my dad than I was, which was saying something.

It was a Friday when my world got just a little bit colder emotionally. I had expressed what seemed like an unpopular opinion about heroes and villains, specifically All Might and Superman, during lunch.

“I can NOT believe you.” Ming spat and glared at me. “There is no way... no possible way... that the two top heroes contributed to the creation of that masked villain!”

I looked at Izuku and he held his hands up in surrender, leaving me to explain my reasoning. “Thanks for backing me up.” I said and looked at Ming's angry face. “It's a known fact that Lex Luthor and Clark Kent grew up together. They were even great friends.”

“No! I refuse to believe that!” Ming exclaimed.

“Ming, when they were teenagers, they had a falling out over powers and who got to use them and why. What the old government was doing to curtail anyone that wasn't following their doctrines and how they were treating the quirkless was the basis of their fight.” I said and looked back at Izuku. “Unlike my father, I've always been best friends with Izuku and would never betray him, powers or not.”

“You take that back! Superman would never betray a friend!” Ming shouted, angrily.

“He was my father.” I said, trying to let her know that I had inside information.

“Yes, he was! He died a hero and you're sitting here and slandering his good name!” Ming stood up. “You make me sick!”

“Ming!” I nearly shouted as I stood and she stormed off. “Dammit, that's not what I'm saying! I have never lied to you! Why would I start now?”

Ming came to a stop and turned back to give me a glare as her hands and forearms lit with her green flame. “Drop dead!” She spat and made the formation with her hands that Izuku and I had come with to let her increase her flames and their strength, then she shot them towards me like a flamethrower.

“RUUNNN!” Someone screamed and everyone started to panic.

I stood my ground and sucked in a huge breath, then blew as fast as I could. A blast of arctic air came out of my mouth, my dad's famous Freeze Breath, and Ming's flames froze in mid-air. The screaming stopped as the large five foot around flame shaped icicle fell to the floor and shattered into hundreds of pieces. Everyone stared at me with shock on their faces.

Ming looked down at her hands and they were covered in a thin film of ice. Tears came to her eyes before she turned and ran from the cafeteria.

“Well, that went about as well as it could have.” Izuku commented and I glared at him. “She could have attacked you before she left the table.”

I lost the glare and sighed as I sat back down. “Yeah, that could have been bad.”

“I don't know why she attacked you, though.” Izuku said.

Saida looked at the both of us and saw our confused faces. “I probably shouldn't tell you this.” She said and then sighed at the chaos her friend had just caused, because the entire cafeteria was talking about what just happened. “She has always had a massive crush on Superman.”

Both Izuku and I sat up straight and stared at her. Saida looked a little uncomfortable at the scrutiny.

“Okay, that makes perfect sense.” Izuku said and looked at me. “Her almost immediate obsession with you and wanting to control who you dated almost as soon as you met.”

I wanted to deny it; but, we never lied to each other. “You're right. I didn't see it because I was focused on how I screwed up my date with Touga.”

“You've spent almost all of your spare time with Ming since you started dating, too.” Izuku said. “I thought your relationship was going to become like mine and Mei's, only it didn't. It's been a month and you aren't behaving like us.”

“Not even close.” I said and sat back on the chair I was sitting on. “It's like... we don't have that spark. We're missing something that we need for it to be good, you know?”

Izuku nodded. “I knew right away that Mei was the one for me.”

“Yeah, and I'm pretty sure Ming wants nothing to do with me now.” I said with a sigh. “If I had known about her crush on my dad, I might have kept my opinion to myself.”

Saida shook her head. “No, she was in the wrong here, even though I shouldn't say that. She's my friend and I have her back.”

“You also tell her when she's wrong. Friends don't let friends make major mistakes.” I said.

“We were discussing the morality of hero work, like we did in class. She shouldn't have overreacted... or attacked you.” Saida said and stood. “I think it should be safe for me to chase her down now.”

“If her hands are still covered in ice, tell her to use technique two.” Izuku said and she nodded as she jogged away after her friend.

“Do you really think she'll use the things we recommended?” I asked.

Izuku had a thoughtful look on his face for a moment. “If she's smart, she'll use it as a template and make her own. If she doesn't calm down first, she'll burn everything we gave to her and to her friends.”

I stopped my laugh before it escaped, because the second option really sounded like Ming. “So, a fifty-fifty shot.”

“It all depends on if Saida finds her before she melts the ice on her hands.” Izuku said with a shrug.

The afternoon Hero course was a weird affair. Half of the twelve students, namely the girls, had taken Ming's side for no other reason than she was a girl and they thought they should stick together. It didn't matter if she was wrong or not. The guys had split in their opinions, with two agreeing it was an overreaction on her part and the other two guys abstaining without expressing an opinion.

Red Fury saw the clear division and her eyes flashed red as she had a quiet discussion with the girls to find out what had happened. She didn't do anything about it until the class was nearly over.

“KENT! Front and center!” Red Fury spat and everyone's attention was on me as I walked over to stand in front of her. “I hear that you have an anti-government viewpoint.”

“What?” I asked and looked at her with surprise on my face. “I never said anything like that!”

“No? From what I hear, you were singing praises to the virtues of Lex Luthor, the world's most notorious villain.”

My mouth dropped open from shock and I turned to stare at Ming, who blushed from embarrassment and couldn't meet my eyes. “Why? Why would you say that?” I asked her. “He. Killed. My. FATHER!”

Ming didn't say anything to defend herself and the girls around her looked uncomfortable.

I turned back to face the teacher. “Red Fury... Mariposa.” I said, my voice soft and pleading. “I would never say anything that encouraged sedition or thoughts of rebellion against the duly appointed members of our government. I have always intended to be a fully accredited Hero, with all privileges and duties that encompasses.”

Red Fury squinted her eyes at me. “Tell me what you were saying, word for word, and I will make that determination for myself.”

“I can do one better.” I said and held a hand out to Izuku, whom passed me several pages of writing. “Here's a written record of everything that was said during the discussion in class and at lunch. It also has Ming's extreme overreaction and attack on me in the cafeteria that was full of witnesses and some victims, had I not stopped her flames from bouncing off of me and hitting everyone at my table.”

Ming gasped and her face drained of color.

“She knows I'm tough enough to resist her quirk for at least several seconds and that would have potentially killed everyone at the table besides Izuku and myself.” I said as Red Fury took the pages. “That also has our speculations about the discussion and provides proof that in ONE PARTICULAR INSTANCE that was mentioned, what I said was true. My dad's actions as a teenager contributed to the creation of a villain.”

Red Fury started reading the pages and her facial expressions ranged from surprise to anger, then back to surprise again.

“That I won't shy away from a great man's mistakes, my father's mistakes, I think makes me a more than reasonable judge.” I commented.

“Because you're biased for him.” Red Fury said and I nodded. “You grew up with him as father and you had front row seats to what he had to go through, his mental anguish and his moral dilemmas.”

“Exactly. I know the man behind the costume. Despite his powers, he was still just a man and made mistakes.” I looked at Ming, who was now crying. “We all make mistakes. Some more costly than others.”

“C-Connor, I... I'm sorry. I thought you were disrespecting his memory and...”

I raised a hand in a stop motion and she stopped talking. “It doesn't matter. You made your opinion of me perfectly clear.”

“No, I... I was only...” Ming shook her head. “I was angry and I shouldn't have said what I said.”

“On that I agree. Unfortunately, you did say it and everyone in the cafeteria heard you.” I said and she looked stricken. “I believe the words you used were 'you make me sick' and 'drop dead', which I'm sure was a break up if I've ever heard of one.”

Ming sobbed and covered her face with her hands.

“I can't even yell at you for crying to get more sympathy, because everyone will hate me even more for being a jerk.” I said with a sigh. My comment earned me a few angry glares from the girls. “Yes, I'm the bad guy and it's all my fault, because she made a mistake and broke us up quite spectacularly.” I bowed and then looked at each of the girls. “Thank you for your good faith in my virtue.”

Red Fury had listened to the whole thing while also reading the transcript. When she was done, she folded the pages up and tucked them into her hero uniform. “Ming, I'm giving you a week's worth of detentions.”

“Wh-what?” Ming asked, surprised. Her crying had already stopped, to no one's surprise.

“You've slandered another student, a very prominent student, and tarnished his reputation.” Red Fury said and growled. “Even after you've gone to every student that your lies have spread to and admit the truth, most of them... if not all of them... will always remember that Connor had said something bad about the government, even if they don't remember what it was.”

“You... you can't do that.” Ming whispered.

“I can assign whatever detention duties I like. It's one of the privileges of being a teacher. We actually have to teach with our actions and words, so you will also be writing a report on falsifying witness testimony and giving a copy to everyone on campus.” Red Fury said, which made Ming's face pale.

“Can I help her?” Saida asked.

Red Fury glared at her. “Why?”

“I didn't stop her from doing it.” Saida said and gave me a sad smile. “Even though friends should always have a friend's back, sometimes it's not worth losing other friends.”

“We're still friends.” I said and she looked surprised. “We just can't hang out like we used to anymore. Ming made sure of that.”

Saida opened her mouth to refute it, then she sighed and nodded. It would be way too awkward to hang around her friend's ex-boyfriend, even with her friend there, which would never happen.

Red Fury looked at the divide still between the girls and the boys. “If you all don't smarten up and get over this stupid rivalry that started with lies, you will never make it as heroes. Even if you hate someone, sometimes you need to work together to get the villain.”

“Yes, ma'am.” The class said as one.

“I'm scheduling team matches for next week's Hero classes. You need experience for the upcoming sports festival in a few months, so be prepared to pair up with people you won't expect.” Red Fury said with a feral grin.

The only two students that were excited about the announcement were myself and Izuku.

“Class dismissed. Get cleaned up before going to homeroom and have a good weekend.” Red Fury said and everyone left the track field pretty quickly, as if they wanted to get away from the whole situation, except for myself and Izuku.

“Are we doing another after school lesson today?” I asked.

Red Fury shook her head and her long ponytail of white hair cascaded across her back. “No, you're not in your right mind for fighting. I can see the frustration behind your eyes, even if you deny that it's there.”

I thought about refuting her words and sighed instead.

“I'll see you in class.” Izuku said and took off at near super-speed.

“You're a coward!” I shouted after him and then laughed as he flipped me off. I turned back to Red Fury and thought about lying, I really did. “She was my first serious girlfriend and nothing actually happened between us.”

Red Fury looked confused.

“The most I got to touch on her were her feet and kissed her lips, cheek, and neck.” I clarified.

“You've been dating for over a month and that's ALL you've done?” Red Fury asked, surprised.

I nodded. “With the latest information Izuku and I found out about Ming, and her epic crush on my dad, I think the idea of having the son of Superman as a boyfriend was more important to her than having Connor Kent as a boyfriend.”

Red Fury actually winced at my words, even though I had said them without inflection and hadn't spoken them viciously. I easily could have, though. “Kent, I've decided that we're having a lesson after school. Just you. Izuku doesn't have your problem and can't really help you work through your repressed anger.”

I wanted to deny it; but, I couldn't. I nodded and she nodded back.

“I'll dig out the sets of fighting pads and we're going to the gymnasium. You're going to work it out of your system, whether you want to or not.” Red Fury said and it wasn't a request.

I nodded and ran to the showers, cleaned up and changed, then went to our homeroom class.

Izuku was already there waiting for me and I told him what Red Fury told me. He laughed. “She is going to run you ragged.”

I had to laugh, too. “I know! Those titanium reinforced heavy bags are hard on the hands, even with the fighting pads on.”

Izuku nodded and we fell silent as the others students entered the classroom. Neither of us looked away from Ming when she entered the classroom. We didn't glare at her, though. Red Fury was going to handle her punishment and it was appropriate in our eyes.

Ming couldn't look at us, though. She knew that she was wrong, very wrong according to some, and she had also ruined her chances at being the daughter-in-law of Superman.

I could almost see her dreams being crushed under that reality and I didn't feel sorry for her. She had overreacted and then hurt my reputation on purpose. Red Fury was right about that and I could see a few of the guys that I had easily made friends with, look a little uncomfortable near me now.

I would definitely need several heavy bags to pound on later. One wasn't going to last long.
