Chapter 235: Guan Feng

Requiem and her gang could talk until their ears fall off, but Bel and Gen Xingming couldn’t care less about it. Now that the tension had finally departed their bodies, they quickly turned back to the fops they were.

The planetary government continued to feign ignorance; it was almost as if nothing had happened just a moment ago. They could neither afford to offend the members of Wings or the two royal princes, so they might as well selectively forget this part of their memory.

Dwei had already called someone to fix the damages to the bar. The bill was footed by Bel and Gen Xingming, although neither of them cared about losing a tiny sum of money.

“Are you going to join AF1, Cillin?”

Cillin shook his head. “I don’t know. It depends.”

Right now there were too many variables in play, and he wasn’t familiar with this place yet. Genya’s final request was also troubling him. It wasn’t difficult to bring Genya home, but the requirement to bring him home only when the ring gave a reaction was. What exactly did he mean?

“If you can survive AF1, you can learn a lot of things in that place. After all, the teachers of AF1 are all famous figures in the whole empire. Royal academicians, famous imperial generals, retired military officers and even old politicians shared their experiences in that place…”

Gen Xingming actually wanted Cillin to make it to AF1. Although he and Bel looked disgusted every time the school was brought up, in reality they were very impressed with the people studying there. There were very few people in the royal family who qualified to enter that place, and those who did were always star pupils who were groomed and cared for a lot by relatives across several generations. In the royal family, their influence dwarfed even theirs even though they were the sons of the current kings. Unfortunately, they simply didn’t possess the talent or the grit to survive AF1. But if Cillin attended AF1, then he could boast to others in the that he had a bro in AF1 in the future.

Bel didn’t say anything. He was certain that Cillin would be seduced into joining the army or some other opportunistic party after he joined AF1.

“If I join now, would my peers be much younger than I am? You did say that everyone in there are geniuses,” Cillin asked.

Gen Xingming waved a hand and explained, “Not necessarily. The age range in AF1 is extremely broad, not to mention that the school itself doesn’t care about people’s age. You saw that show off of a black panther, didn’t you? They don’t even care about racial differences. Plus, you won’t necessarily start from the most basic level of study because there are no fixed grades in AF1. The courses in this place are arranged according to the school survey, so most of the time AF1 is less like a school and more like a base; a base that specifically nurtures talented people.”

If that was the case, Cillin had to admit that he was slightly interested. The knowledge he could learn there would benefit him a lot.

Cillin thought for a moment before asking, “What is that Wings you guys mentioned earlier?”

Bel and Gen Xingming gave him a detailed explanation of Wings. This was so that Cillin would know to keep his guard up if he ran into someone from Wings again in the future.

Their fathers might not be afraid of Wings, but they were. What could they do, they committed too many dirty deeds and they just couldn’t help but feel worried every time they saw them.

The nobles’ extravagance was the reason Wings was founded in the first place. After Wings was founded they became the eyes and ears of Emperor Mist Bodhisattva, and the nobles visibly restrained themselves as a result. After all, Wings was born to supervise the nobles. They might possess special privileges, but Wings kept them from abusing their power too much. The consequences of being caught were severe to say the least.

“That’s enough, let’s talk about something else. My stomach hurts every time we talk about this,” Bel shook off the cold clinging to his skin and said.

“Alright. I actually do have something else to tell you all. Hehe, look, your bro bought a car for himself.” Gen Xingming slapped the table spiritedly while boasting, “It’s a triphibian flying car produced by “Whirlwind”. Right now, there are only five of them in existence, and I’m the proud owner of one of them.”

“Whirlwind” was a flying car brand and one of the most distinguished flying car corporation in the entire empire. It was famed for its design of low-key luxury, and it belonged to the top noble family in terms of triphibian flying car, the Sizer Family. Most of the series produced by Whirlwind had the ability to transform, so the car could look either reserved or flamboyant. Whirlwind was deeply loved by noble descendants and was the dream for flying car fans.

Bel said jealously after listening to Gen Xingming’s dragged out bragging, “What’s the use of empty talk? Show it to us so we can see what this latest Whirlwind flying car looks like.”

If Bel hadn’t gone away to experience life, he could’ve gotten one car for himself. But now, it was already too late.

Dwei cast a sideway glance at the proud looking Gen Xingming and shook her head. What a prodigal.

Cillin wanted to see how a legendary big shot flying car looked too, but when the vehicle Gen Xingming was so proud of he could fly actually appeared before their eyes, they both wore odd looks on their faces. It was because the flying car looked exactly the same as one of the car models Fleka showed them for research that day.

Bel’s jealousy vanished in a puff. In fact, the corners of his mouth nearly stretched up to his ears.

“And here I was wondering how impressive it was, but no, it’s just some second hand stuff we toyed with before.” This time it was Bel’s turn to show off.

“Just admit you’re jealous already. This car just came out of the factory, so how the hell could you possibly have ‘toyed’ with it before?” Gen Xingming said with an I-know-you’re-lying expression.

“Tsk, why will I lie to you about this?” Bel said before jumping into the car in familiar fashion. Then, he began playing with the settings on the control panel and transforming the car while explaining to Gen Xingming a lot of configurations the latter hadn’t completely figured out himself in great detail.

“Fuck! How the hell do you know about this?” Gen Xingming grabbed Bel by the throat and shook him with all his strength.

Bel kicked him away, rubbed his neck and lifted his chin proudly. “I was there when that fatty Fleka was designing the flying car. Your Royal Highness even lent a hand in the design. Next time we meet him, I think we should ask him to give us a flying car each.”

Cillin cast a glance at Bel but didn’t say anything. He gave him face and didn’t expose him for the fraud he really was.

Under Gen Xingming’s forceful demands, Bel roughly spoke of what happened that day. However, he embellished the story to make himself appear more prominent while downplaying Cillin’s importance in designing the flying car by a lot. He had to make sure that the Gen Family doesn’t pull Cillin to their side.

Gen Xingming picked his chin for a bit before looking at Cillin, “When are you guys heading back? Let me come with you. I want to see the birthplace of this car.”

“We’ll go back tomorrow.”

Bel had no problems with Cillin’s decision. Right now, he was pliable to anything but going back to school. Now that Gen Xingming was here, there was no reason for him to return to the imperial capital.

The next day, the trio hopped onto Bel’s flying car and departed to Old Chang’s planet. Cillin had bought some items for Old Chang and the triplets, and a high grade electronic tablet and microcomputer for Chang Five.

Gen Xingming and Bel bought a lot of things themselves - especially toys, because they can win a child’s heart easily - after seeing Cillin’s purchase.

Before they left, Dwei even gave away a dozen or so bottles of wine and a large bag of fish biscuit to the gray cat, cheering it up so much that it was euphoric all the way back to the planet.

They had left on a different, more low-key spaceplane. The main reason they chose this spaceplane was because it had a depot that could fit Gen Xingming’s flying car.

At the shop, Old Chang was calculating his income for selling parts during the past few days. Life inside the city was a lot easier than life at Repair Street since the city people had a high consumption rate. Although expenses were also a lot higher inside the city, overall their living standards had improved and his burden was much lighter. The persistent knot in Old Chang’s heart had also vanished after Chang Five’s illness was cured.

The triplets were dividing and putting the parts into packages, but they would grab a handful of biscuits and shove them into their mouths every once in a while. It would seem that the three children had gotten a lot more plump than before.

Old Chang was just calculating the amount of stock he needed to replenish when there was a commotion outside his shop. A flying car had parked itself in front of the entrance. Although the flying car didn’t have a showy appearance, it was very soothing to look at. It didn’t stand out among other flying cars, and yet that was the first thing that people paid attention to when they looked at the clump of flying cars.

What really caused the commotion was the brand at the front of the car.

Old Chang once dreamed of getting one for himself when he was younger. Who within their trade wouldn’t want a car like this?

“Whirlwind” was a top grade brand. Although this city was where the wealth of the whole planet was concentrated, it was incredibly rare to find someone who actually drove a “Whirlwind”. Old Chang saw a “Whirlwind” once when he was entering the city during his younger days, but only once. He never thought that he’d be able to see one again.

A man who looked rather young and handsome walked out of the car. In fact, he entered the shop immediately after that.

Unlike some arrogant-looking nobles, this person looked very amiable. The smile on his face was so cordial that he left a good impression in everyone’s mind. However, Old Chang was certain that this man was an upper class gentleman from his attire and manners.

Old Chang felt a little nervous. He wasn’t quite sure how he should act around someone like this because the gap between the two of them was just too big. If he was just an arrogant noble fop then he at least knew the way to deal with him, but this man stumped Old Chang. For whatever reason, he felt like the man was born to make people look up to him. Even if the man was acting easy going right now, Old Chang still couldn’t help but feel nervous. Truthfully, Old Chang felt inferior before this man, and he was a little embarrassed to face someone like him.

Although the shop had service robots, Old Chang still went over to him personally.

“Is there anything you need?” Old Chang asked carefully.

The man smiled mildly. “There’s no need to be nervous, I’m just looking around.”

It’s exactly because you’re looking around that I’m feeling nervous, Old Chang thought to himself.

The man seemed to realize Old Chang’s thoughts but said nothing about it. He cast a glance at the parts put on display.

“I can see that you know a lot about the structure of a flying car,” the man said, “these parts were all arranged in a specific building order.”

Old Chang’s anxiety lessened a little when he heard this. As the man asked a couple of questions related to repairs, Old Chang felt his tension loosen bit by bit as he answered them seriously.

Old Chang thought that the man was a pretty good person. He couldn’t hate someone like him even if it turned out that he didn’t buy any parts in the end.

Fortunately for Old Chang, the man took a seat on the chair carried over by service robot and chatted with him for a time. Then, he accepted a glass of clear water and wetted his throat for a bit.

Old Chang couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. This man was a true upper class man. He looked so elegant that he looked like a living portrait just sitting there and drinking his water. He never thought that drinking could look so good.

While the duo were chatting with each other, another flying car stopped in front of the shop with a swoosh. This car was a lot more showy than the man’s car, and what nearly drove the people around the area insane was that this new car was also a “Whirlwind”.

Just what kind of luck this shop owner was having today to be visited by two “Whirlwinds”? Some people were even starting to suspect that the shop owner was related to someone from the upper class.

“Ha, is this the shop? It’s a bit small, but it does look pretty good.” Gen Xingming put on a cool pose after he got out of the car to show off his existence to the world.

“We’re back!” The gray cat jumped into the shop and cried out loudly. “Come out and help carry the stuff, little ones!”

The triplets and Chang Five all came out and surrounded the gray cat the moment they heard its voice. The service robots helped carry the items Cillin bought into the shop.

“Hey, little fellows. I’m a friend of your brother, Cillin. I’ve purposely brought some gifts for you!” Gen Xingming hurriedly carried out the big pile of gifts he bought.

The triplets’ eyes were shining when they saw the pile of gifts, but they didn’t accept it right away. They looked at Cillin and waited until he gave them the nod before they accepted it.

Gen Xingming was very confident in his gifts. He thought: that should win me a lot of favor points with these kids.

“Conduct yourself.” Bel walked over and cast a disdainful glance at Gen Xingming. “Don’t you notice that there’s another customer inside the shop?”

“Conduct what? It’s not like I stood in his… way…”

Gen Xingming’s vigorous voice suddenly took a very rapid downward turn.

The man chatting with Old Chang elegantly turned his head over and smiled at them. The smile was very amiable, but both Bel and Gen Xingming felt as if they were thrown into an icy land all of a sudden. A chill ran straight up their spine and into their brains as they took two steps backward from where they were in unison. Judging from how they looked, they would run away on the spot if they could.

Right now Gen Xingming was sorely regretting his decision to come here. Why did he agree to come to this place? It’s just a shop, isn’t it? Now he ran into the one person he didn’t wish to meet even in his dreams.

Bel himself was absorbed in regret. He shouldn’t have come here. He really shouldn’t have come here.

After smiling at Bel and Gen Xingming, the man said gently, “Why are you two children blocking the door?”

Swoosh.

Bel and Gen Xingming moved to a side like they were escaping for their lives.

Cillin looked at the man sitting inside the shop. On the surface, he looked to be about Tousen’s age and seemingly harmless. However, Cillin had a feeling that he was the same type of person as the Hunter, Jiada.

“T-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-teacher Guan.” Both Bel and Gen Xingming were so nervous that they couldn’t even speak properly.

Guan Feng took a sip of warm water before saying, “Don’t worry, I’m not here to catch you and take you back to school.”

Both Bel and Gen Xingming relaxed slightly when they heard this, but only slightly. While they were on the road they didn’t stop chatting for even a moment, but now they didn’t even dare let out a fart.

After Cillin let the service robots deal with the items they bought, he took the triplets and Chang Five upstairs.

“Hey, come over and help, you two.” Cillin shouted towards Bel and Gen Xingming from the stairs.

Bel and Gen Xingming shot a careful look at Guan Feng. When they saw that Guan Feng was ignoring them, they immediately ran up the stairs like they were wind incarnate. Then, they collapsed on the floor like they ran out of energy.

“Oh shit, oh shit, why is he here?” Gen Xingming pulled a long face while saying.

“I don’t know, if I knew I wouldn’t have come here even if I were to die!” Bel rubbed his own face strongly.

After telling the gray cat to take the four kids away and play with the toys, Cillin grabbed two bottles of iced drinks for the two completely listless men and said, “Drink this and calm yourself down a little.”

The duo accepted the iced drinks and poured them down their throats immediately. Once they were finished, they let out a long sigh of relief. Suddenly, Gen Xingming asked as if he recalled something, “Say, do you think that Guan Feng came over to see you, Cillin?”

The more Gen Xingming thought about it, the more convinced he became. They had just run into students of AF1 and AF2 not long ago, and today they even ran into Guan Feng. There was no way this was a coincidence. Also, Guan Feng was an amazing person. There was no way he would come to a poor place like this just to chat with an old man.

“Guan Feng? His name is Guan Feng?” Cillin asked.

“Yep, that’s his name…” Gen Xingming suddenly paused himself before looking at his surroundings. “Can we speak here without getting overheard?”

Cillin nodded. “This place has decent soundproof.”

After listening for a moment and confirming that Cillin’s words were true, Gen Xingming finally continued, “Guan Feng is an AF1 teacher, a special teacher. He may look like he’s about the same age as Tousen, but in reality he’s eighty years old already. This guy is also a member of Wings and at a very high level too. I seem to recall that he holds a major general post in the army, although I can’t say for sure. You absolutely mustn’t underestimate this person. He had taught many princes and princesses of Mist Bodhisattva Empire in his life, and my father is one of his students. He was also given special permission to not salute a prince, so he doesn’t need to salute us for example. In fact, we’re the ones who actually have to salute him.

Oh, there’s one more thing. That Goryeo of AF1 who shot you earlier is Guan Feng’s disciple. Guan Feng is the one who taught him how to shoot. Right now Goryeo is using the E-type bullet of Purgatory’s Thunder Snake - which is a pretty good bullet - but Guan Feng himself uses a K-type bullet. It is the most difficult type of Purgatory’s Thunder Snake to master, so you may have dodged Goryeo’s bullet, but there’s no way you can dodge Guan Feng’s K-type bullet. I’m not trying to scare you. If you really did plan to attend AF1 in the future, you will know that that Guan Feng is very dangerous.

Gen Xingming shuddered when he recalled that one time his father had kicked him out of his home and into AF1 for staged training. That Guan Feng… seriously ain’t human at all!

Cillin knew that Guan Feng was a very dangerous person. The K-type bullet of Purgatory’s Thunder Snake piqued his curiosity more, though.

When Bel heard Gen Xingming’s explanation, he asked, “How do you know him so well? Even I know a bit about him only.”

Gen Xingming spread his arms. “Guan Feng shares a bit of relationship with the Gen Family, but that is during my grandfather’s time. You can say that his teacher-student relationship with my generation isn’t very good; in fact he might not even want to admit that he had ever been our teacher.”

“Why’s that?” Cillin asked.

Bel curled his lips. “Because he felt embarrassed to have taught such lousy students.”
