“Here. This is the Thousand-face Fox egg and its hatching fluid. All you have to do is hatch it.”

Su Bai handed the incubator and hatching liquid to his girlfriend. He was really looking forward to her hatching the egg.

“It looks good; I’ll start incubating it when the trials end tomorrow.”

Chen Rouxue nodded. The Thousand-face Fox was a really good support pet as it could learn other skills regardless of the attribute.

It was impossible for one to contract pets with all attributes, but with the Thousand-face Fox, she did not have to worry about encountering pets that it was restrained against.

For example, Big Demon was afraid of spirit pets and would be almost hung and beaten up by the opponent, but with the Thousand-face Fox, it could learn some spirit skills to deal with the opponent.

In addition, the Thousand-face Fox was very fast and was a very good support.

Most importantly, it could copy the skills of another pet for free.

The only bad point was that the upper limit was quite low, and its bloodline was too pure. It was specially designed and cultivated by the card civilization for scouting, so even if Su Bai supplemented its origin, its evolutionary type would quite possibly remain unchanged.

Nonetheless, no pet was perfect and they always came with pros and cons.

It did not matter, though. After contracting it, they could raise the pet at home if it could not catch up. It was definitely still good before the emperor level.

“Okay, then. I’ll leave first. See you tomorrow.”

Su Bai nodded, too.

“Okay. Drive safely.”

After Chen Rouxue bid goodbye, she got onto her scooter and left with the pet egg.

Instead of training his pets when he returned home, Su Bai looked through information books given by his master, Gao An.

Although the Little Tyrant and the cub were growing with the new medicinal cakes’ help, they were still quite behind the advanced stage and had little hope for the time being.

There was a match tomorrow, and he planned to let his pets play as much as they wanted.

Everything so far depended on tomorrow’s Cannes juvenile team trial. It was a competition that he must win, for it would decide whether he could obtain a dragon pet or a kind of dragon which had never appeared.

In other words, as long as the Little Bloodworm successfully evolved, it would surely be a brand-new dragon and one destined to be an ancestor.

He had already contracted the Little Bloodworm. Although his master told him not to be involved with blood pets, the Little Bloodworm was different, so he believed that Gao An would support his decision.

However, the Little Bloodworm was temporarily destined to be placed behind the scenes, since blood pets were the Spirit Alliance’s mortal enemies. Su Bai did not want to defy it openly.

Still, it was good to have a dragon pet in private as a trump card, especially since it was a new type of dragon that could play a big role at critical moments.

“Sisi~”

The Little Bloodworm crawled in from the windowsill to him. It then placed a tender leaf before him and pushed it toward him, signaling Su Bai to eat it.

“Thank you, but I don’t eat leaves. You can have it to yourself.”

He touched the Little Bloodworm’s head lightly, feeling very pleased by its actions.

“Sisi~”

Does Ah Bai not like me?

It left with the leaf, feeling slightly upset.

In fact, it had never thought that Su Bai would contract it as a pet, for it knew that it was too weak. It was one of the lowest rank creatures in the world and would never have been favored by a Pet Tamer.

Thus, after Su Bai contracted it, the Little Bloodworm felt extremely grateful to him. It thought that, even if it could not fight for him, it could still repay his kindness in other ways.

“No, no. You misunderstood.”

Su Bai stopped the Little Bloodworm, took half of the young leaf it was biting, and put it into his mouth. He fed the other half to his pet and said, “There, we’ll share it in half.”

After reassuring the Little Bloodworm, he realized that this third pet of his was female and had a very likable personality.

These days, the Little Bloodworm would not only give him tender leaves but also some small woven items.

“Sisi~”

Thank you, Ah Bai~

The Little Bloodworm made a faint sound and happily nibbled on the half of the tender leaf.

“Howl!”

Ah Bai, I’m hungry, too. We’ve been training by ourselves the entire afternoon.

The cub trotted over to the youth with the Little Tyrant in tow and stared eagerly up at him.

“Wait a while. I’ve got something ready for your dinner,” he said. These two would waste their energy if they ate too many medicinal cakes.

When the Little Bloodworm saw the two pets, it quickly returned to its glass tank. Although the boy said both were not bad, it was still instinctively afraid of them.

“Howl!()〈))”

The cub looked at him in dissatisfaction, and The Little Tyrant did the same as it really wanted to eat food.

Su Bai returned to reading and threw a cultivation handbook to the cub. The cub was just being greedy and was not really hungry.

“Howl~ o(一〈一+)o”

Instead of reading the cultivation manual, Purple Jade turned around and hopped onto the bed to play with its tablet.

The Little Tyrant continued to stare unwillingly at its owner. If he did not give it food today, it would stand there staring at him.

Past 8 p.m., the boy finished reading the book and looked down to see that his pet was sleeping on the floor in a puddle of drool.

Su Bai: “…” Was it really such a persistent foodie?

Finally giving in, he opened the cabinet and prepared dinner for his pets.

In fact, he could not blame the Little Tyrant. It was just born to be a foodie, so even if it had enough food, it would still want to eat and could not control this desire at all.

“Roar~ (╯▽╰)”

The Little Tyrant smelled the scent of food and woke up from its sleep instantly. Looking at the food in front, it swallowed its saliva.

The cub also trotted over.

“There, this is your dinner,” he said.

Su Bai put down the bowl, and the two rushed over like hungry wolves.

He shook his head and prepared some food for the Little Bloodworm.

It was the morning of a new day, and once more, the sun was shining brightly. The cub collected some morning dew and watered its alien plant. The Little Tyrant lay in its nest and hugged its volcanic rock as it yawned from time to time.

The Little Bloodworm was still sleeping soundly in the glass jar.

After breakfast, Su Bai took his two pets to the city to participate in the final round of the Cannes juvenile team competition.

“Let’s go.” Chen Rouxue waved when she saw him coming over.

“Okay.” He nodded.

After finding a rental bird, they set off for Cannes’ main pet center, which was also the largest pet center in the city. Today’s final round of selection would be held there.

The two soon arrived at the pet center and saw an ancient-looking, octagonal building with eighteen floors which resembled a tower; with each floor being ten meters high, it was the tallest building in Cannes.

A pet statue stood at every corner on every floor of this octagonal building, and these pets all had special meanings.

For example, the pet standing on the top spire was a ferocious Frost Dragon, a signature pet of Fang Ziyu, the first leader of the Pet League. It was rumored that its body was larger than even the Blue Planet, but no one had ever seen it before.

1

Su Bai had once done research on Fang Ziyu before but only discovered very little information. The man remained a figure shrouded in mystery even up to these days.

It was as if he had suddenly appeared when the whole world was about to be invaded by monsters, and only a few words were mentioned in historical records. One message only said that Fang Ziyu had once directly closed three of the top ten cracks in the world with the Frost Dragon before founding the Pet Alliance.

As for the three super-large space cracks he sealed and closed, there was still no change even after a hundred years.

Other than that, nothing else was included in the book. It seemed that, after establishing the Pet Alliance, Fang Ziyu had faded out of the public eye as its first leader.

“It’s so crowded.”

Chen Rouxue looked at the crowd. This was her first time at the pet center, and it was obviously still early in the morning, but there were already so many people.

“It’s not only crowded, but they’re all strong people, too.”

Su Bai nodded after seeing some commander pets at a glance. Cannes’ pet center really deserved to be the headquarters.

“This pagoda is so beautiful! We can take a stroll after the selection test today.”

Chen Rouxue surveyed the octagonal building and exclaimed. Almost all the pet centers above the city level had buildings in the shape of an octagon. It was regarded as one of the Pet Alliance’s traditions and truly had an aesthetic appeal.

“Of course!”

Su Bai nodded in agreement. This was his first time here and he naturally wanted to explore it before leaving.

They entered the building and scanned the spacious interior with crowds of people walking about. It made the two feel as though they had come to the kingdom of giants.

As instructed, they took the elevator and quickly arrived at a hall on the sixth floor, which was originally a simulation room for pet combat. There were ten large-scale pet combat simulators installed in this hall, but they were closed today for the Cannes’ juvenile team selection.

“Are you here to participate in the selection?” A staff member asked them as soon as they got out of the elevator.

“Yes.”

Both nodded and handed over their IDs.

Two staff members checked on the computer and nodded. “Go in and wait first. The trials won’t start until 9 a.m.”

“Okay.”

Su Bai opened the door and walked in with Chen Rouxue. Inside was an empty hall of five to six hundred square meters. Ten large machines, along with fifty more chairs, were here. More than half of the people had already arrived.

When they came in, almost everyone turned to look at them.

Su Bai swept his eyes across the crowd and saw many old acquaintances among them, such as the Gemini twins, the seeded players of First Middle School, and the seeded player Zhao Li of Iron Second Middle School. They were all famous trainee Pet Tamers of Cannes whom he had encountered in the survival challenge competition.

Besides them, he saw Wang Er but did not recognize many others.

In contrast, most of them had heard of him and Chen Rouxue as his reputation was rather big.

“Let’s sit over there.”

Su Bai pointed to the two seats on the right and then walked over to sit down with his girlfriend to wait for the selection to start.

The people here were not weak and were all ordinary summoners who had silver contract books as well as warlord pets.

Not long after the couple sat down, the Gemini twin sisters, who were both wearing sailor suits, walked over and sat down beside them.

“Hello, my name is Li Hai. This is my younger sister, Li Xing. We’re happy to meet you,” said the elder sister softly.

“What a pity that we won’t be able to compete with each other in this competition, but we’re still looking forward to bumping into you in the five-school joint examination. Fourth High School can wait to be hunted down,” said the younger sister smugly.

They obviously had not forgotten about this couple’s dirty tricks during the survival challenge competition.

“I’m Chen Rouxue, and he’s Su Bai,” Chen Rouxue introduced them both, ignoring Li Xing’s provocation.

Although these twins were indeed strong, they did not let it get to them. Defeating this pair of sisters would only take them a matter of minutes. They only hoped that the siblings would not cry so badly following their defeat.

Soon, everyone arrived. Su Bai checked the time and saw that it was quarter to 9 a.m.

When it was exactly 9 a.m., two men and one woman walked in. The man in a brown leather jacket and crocodile leather shoes in front was an uncle. He had a big, round face and small, narrow eyes.

Following him was another man and a woman in suits. Both were in their twenties and looked very grand.

The three came to the podium with some documents, and the young man spoke first.

“Hello, everyone. We’re the examiners of this selection competition. I’m Li Kang, Cannes’ juvenile team manager. Next to me is the team coach, Yu Lingyue, and the one behind me is the supervisor, Director Liu Yong of the Municipal Cultural Center.

“The three of us are responsible for the selection competition this time. Everyone should already know the selection process; you will all go through one hundred stages of the Road of Champions in the pet combat simulator, and the result will be based on the number of stages you pass.

“The top five will directly become the starting players of the Cannes’ juvenile team, while those who place sixth to tenth will become reserve players.”

After Manager Li finished speaking, Director Liu spoke with a smile while he scanned the crowd. “Yes, the potential team members this time are very good; I’m very optimistic about the results. I hope you can all perform well today and eventually represent Cannes in the city team competition, as well as win an honor for our city. With that, I now announce the start of the selection competition!”

There was a smattering of applause in the audience.

“You’re in groups of ten, which Yu Lingyue and I will announce. When your name is called, please come up to register. After that, take your pet to the actual combat simulator and scan your ID. The assessment will officially begin then. The first ten people in the first round are Hai Zhou, Lin Ju, Fan Yu…”

As Li Kang announced the first batch, ten people got up and jotted down their names. They then walked to their respective pet combat simulators, opened the hatches, and walked in to begin.

The simulator kick-started one by one, signaling the start of the challenge for the ten people.
