"Does that mean the winner gets some kind of reward?"

I ask Her Highness Lily as I watch the crowds of people filling the streets around me. Zoroar had just gone to talk to the gatekeeper. It must have been a rumor that spread quickly from the gatekeeper about our upcoming quick game.

It was a good thing that the gatekeeper had opened the street for our quick game.

The crowd cheered for Her Highness Lily, especially the young ladies. However, the cheers for me were heard even more than that. For some reason, they were mainly men and families.

"That's the hero of our country!" Isn't he a surprisingly nice guy?" Dad, where's the dragon? A pure white dragon!"

"They're cheering more than Rev. Lusto."

Roa's voice was a murmur. For some reason, he sounded a little satisfied. Zoroar's and Rysmist's faces become a little grim, as if they had heard the murmur. But they seem to pretend not to have heard it.

His Highness Lily and I put aside everything else around us and continue our conversation.

"You don't want to lose, do you? What do you think about making a bet?

"I think it's not very admirable for a man of your species to gamble, is it?"

I will stop him softly.

"The higher up you are, the more decisions you have to make, don't you think?"

You mean to say that betting is a part of it? I understand. What would you like to bet on?

"If the Heroes of Salvation win, how about I tell you the secret of the magic crystal stone I gave you the other day?

I paused for a moment before replying. It was something that had been on my mind quite a bit.

"So what if we lose?"

"I, the Second Princess of the Kingdom of Calzate, beg you to become Lilienthal-Calzate's."

With the fingers of her hands interlocked again, smiling, Her Highness Lily told us what the wager was.

I looked at her cheerful, but not smiling smile and made up my mind.

This is a battle that I must win hands down.

"Fine. I accept your bet.

"Master Rust!"

He turns to Loa, who is about to say something, and tells her soothingly with the palm of his hand.

"Don't worry. I'm going to win.

After he says this strongly, Roa reluctantly backs down.

"Well. Well then, let's get started. The first of the five to reach the mausoleum will be the winner. Zoroar!"

"Ha! Gatekeeper! Give the signal to start."

The preparations are made in a hurry.

The five of us line up in a single file outside the gate.

Everyone's eyes fell on the suddenly appointed gatekeeper.

He raised his hand in a wide gesture.

"Now, let me give you the signal to begin. Are you all ready?

Good. Let's get started."

"Yes, sir. Three, two, one. Start!

The gatekeeper's hand swung down with a mighty swing.
