Chapter 31

I grabbed Lord Vessel’s arm.

Simultaneously, he inquired, frowning to the death.

“What?”

“She said she had something she wanted to tell me, and I was willing to know it.”

It’s the heroine, not anybody else.

It piqued my interest to learn that such a person had anything to say to me.

And Vivian’s expression on my face was rather unsettling.

“Don’t be tricked. It’s not because she wants to say something to you, Lady, but because she wants to get out of this situation.”

“Don’t you think we should hear it first?”

“You’ll regret it.”

“I’ll have to hear it as well. And I’m not sure why you’re doing this.”

“That’s because she…! Ha, no.”

Lord Vessel groaned, his face weary, at my remarks.

What exactly is it?

What’s the matter with him?

Instead of answering my question, Lord Vessel released Vivian’s arm and sarcastically replied.

“I let her go because you asked, so do anything you want with her. But if you ask me to help you later, Lady, I won’t. Everything is self-inflicted.”

He then walked out of the office. Only my ridiculousness was exacerbated as a result of this.

What was it that made him so enraged?

No, at least tell me the reason and go!

I couldn’t figure out Lord Vessel’s demeanour, so I just stared at the closed door as Vivian opened her mouth.

“Well, thank you. As you can see, my brother doesn’t like me very much.”

I was curious as to what she was saying.

‘Was Lord Vessel rude to the heroine in the story?’

I couldn’t recall anything about the plot when I tried to recall it.

I hadn’t read it in a very long time.

But Vivian was a heroine, and I remembered she had a nice image, so I had a hunch Lord Vessel would like her.

“I would have been chased out and severely reprimanded if it hadn’t been for Lady. Thank you once again.”

Vivian gave a sour grimace.

I was under the impression that white lilies were in full bloom everywhere around her at the time.

What exactly is this illusion?

Was this due to the fact that she is the heroine?

Vivian was clearly not a tremendous beauty.

Of course, by my standards.

Every day, I see a gorgeous woman who can effortlessly wrap up a nation in the mirror.

Vivian, on the other hand, had an oddly seductive charm.

That might be the reason. Without recognizing it, I was relieved.

Should I mention I’d want to be friendly to her?

“No, it isn’t anything. I recall you saying you had something to tell me before, but may I hear your story now?”

“Oh, yes, I did!”

Vivian clapped her hands as if she had forgotten.

And she pondered for a long time.

What on earth is she trying to say?

“Please speak comfortably.”

“Well……Are you sure you’re not my brother’s lover, Lady?”

I was understandably dissatisfied by Vivian’s inquiry since she hesitated for a long time.

Was that what she had to say?

“If that’s the case, didn’t Sir Vessel clearly deny it earlier? Why are you asking me again?”

“Of course, my brother denied, but perhaps he didn’t want to introduce us to Lady quite yet. As a result, I wanted to question you personally.”

I reclaim my desire to be friendly to her!

Rather, I could see why Lord Vessel acted the way he did.

Ugh, but I couldn’t help it since it had already occurred.

“Allow me to be clear. I’m not in a relationship like that with Lord Vessel.”

“Are you certain? But didn’t my brother bring you a variety of gifts?”

“It was only because Lord Vessel wanted to make a personal request for me.”

After all, he was only attempting to bribe me.

“Could you please tell me what my brother’s request was?”

“I apologize, but I believe that would be tough. As I already stated, it is a personal matter.”

“Is that so……”

Because she is Lord Vessel’s sister, she may be aware of his complex, but I couldn’t reveal it to her unless she brought it up first.

“I’d never seen my brother offer a gift to a lady before, so I was curious, and it was all a misunderstanding. I apologize. I’ve simply offended Lady Oreu.”

Vivian apologized graciously to me.

If she apologized like that, I’m sure I’d soften.

It was a period when I was uncomfortably smiling and making awkward expressions.

But did I mention my name to Vivian?

Suddenly, a weird chill passed down my spine.

“Do you know who I am, Lady Vessel? May I inquire as to how you came to know my name?”

“Oh……”

Vivian’s face flushed with shame.

She even avoided looking me in the eyes.

“On the way, I noticed it in the hallway. Your name was scribbled on the present box.”

Oh, I see.

I remembered present boxes piling up in the hallway since the stores hadn’t yet picked them up.

She couldn’t help but notice because it had my name written on it.

“And my brother just called you, Lady Oreu, therefore I called you right away…

I apologize if I offended you.”

“No, I was just curious.”

When it was verified that I was overreacting, I waved my hands because I felt embarrassed.

Knock-knock-

“Are you inside, Lady Oreu?”

I didn’t know why, but I felt like my heart was sinking for a brief time.

“Lady?”

Caleb’s voice could be heard once again.

Instead of responding, I found myself staring at Vivian in front of me.

I knew I ought to respond and say something, but I couldn’t open my lips.

“Please excuse me.”

And Caleb pushed open the door and walked in without waiting for me to stop him.

Vivian returned her gaze slowly to the sound of the click.

It didn’t take long for Vivian and Caleb’s gazes to get entwined.

But it felt like forever to me.

My heartbeat began thumping and racing the minute I recognized the encounter between the two.

“…I had no idea there was anyone else.” “Is she your guest?”

“Oh, this lady……”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Duke.”

Caleb’s remarks came to me a little late. But, before I could say anything, Vivian acted.

“My name is Vivian Vessel.”

She smiled as she raised the hem of her skirt with both hands to greet him.

“We usually see each other from a distance, but today is the first time we’ve seen each other up close. Duke, I’m delighted to meet you.”

Despite Vivian’s greeting, Caleb’s demeanour remained unchanged.

In his customary tone, he kindly inquired as to the reason for her visit.

“Could you please explain to me why the Marquis’s daughter is here? Is it due to Lord Vessel?”

“No, I’m not here to visit my brother. I came to see Lady Oreu.”

“Personally?”

“Yes, I’d like to speak with Lady Oreu about something. So all I was doing was asking her a question.”

“Pardon me, but were you originally acquainted with Lady Oreu?”

“No, that’s not the case. I met her for the first time today.”

“It seems like you came here on your own, rather than making an appointment in advance. Is my guess correct?”

“Oh, I, uh, I mean I…”

Vivian seemed embarrassed.

Caleb, on the other hand, was ruthless.

“I asked whether my guess was correct”

Vivian looked at me, instead of replying as if she needed my help.

But I couldn’t say anything to help her.

There was nothing for me to say in response to Caleb’s comments, and there was no reason for me to do so.

“……Yes, that’s correct.”

Vivian answered tremblingly after a little silence.

“But there was a reason for that: I heard my brother had just sent gifts to Lady Oreu, so I wanted to check it out……”

“Is that all your reason?

“Yes? Yes.”

“From what I’ve heard, the Lady business appears to be too personal. Furthermore, it is difficult for me to understand why you came here without an appointment in the first place.”

“……”

“Also, this is where the Royal Knights deal with the paperwork; it is not a place where you can enter for personal purposes and matters.”

His well-refined voice was soft but oddly sharp.

To the extent that I, who was next to Caleb listening to his words, felt the chill.

“I’m not sure how you managed to get through the main gate guards for that purpose.”

Caleb looked directly at Vivian and continued speaking.

“I believe it is time for you to go now.”

According to what he stated, it was simply a suggestion. But somehow it felt like a command.

That’s how much pressure I felt from what Caleb said.

‘Why is he like this…?’

I stared at Caleb, shocked.

Even in the storyline, Caleb was not initially interested in Vivian.

But I don’t think he was this cold.

‘Is it because Vivian hasn’t recalled her previous life?’

It seemed pretty reasonable. Vivian was the heroine of <The Flower of The Elphida>.

If the original substance of the storyline line was not unfolding, Vivian would not be the heroine of the storyline.

Furthermore, the first time the two met was when Vivian walked out to the street to watch a reenactment of ‘Song about Love.’

There were still months until the reenactment, so perhaps they hadn’t piqued each other’s interest yet.

“As the Duke stated it, I’m sorry, I suppose I’m being rude. I’ll return now.”

“Do you have an escort back home? If you don’t, I’ll call Lord Vessel.”

“Oh no! It’s alright. I brought along an escort. He’ll be waiting for me at the palace’s gate with a horseman. Excuse me for today.”

Vivian gave a brief smile before turning around.

Caleb questioned me as soon as the door closed.

“I couldn’t ask you previously, but is there anything Lady Vessel said that put you in a difficult situation?”

“Oh no! There isn’t anything like that.”

“I’m glad to hear that. I noticed Lord Vessel running with a solemn expression, so I wondered whether there was anything unusual going on. ”

Oh, that’s why he showed up at the office suddenly.

After all, if I had heard that my subordinate had abruptly exited the training ground, I would have followed him.

“But why didn’t Lord Vessel show up?”

“He was here a few moments ago. And he was about to take Lady Vessel home, but she said she needed to tell me something, so I agreed to listen. And then he abruptly exited……I’m not sure where he went after that.”

“Is that so? I’m relieved nothing happened this time, but if an outsider appears again, don’t deal with them and send them away immediately.

“Send them out……?”

“Yes. And if you need me, simply contact me or tell them I told you to do so.”
