Taylor fidgeted, seemingly a little uneasy. The closer she got to the man in front of her, the more unbearable the memories of that dark night became in her mind.

It came to a point where Taylor also believed that the pain would follow her forever.

After that day, every time Taylor went to the suburban villa to treat Scott, Louis would accompany her just to be safe.

Meanwhile, the meeting for the release of the new products was fast approaching. Emily often worked day and night in the office, while Jacob had been gone on a business trip to S Country for a week.

Emily's workload made it impossible for her to stay at home for a long time and as such, she practically ended up living in the office on most days.

Emily was utterly exhausted and barely managing to keep herself awake, when suddenly, the door of her office was pushed open by someone from the outside.

Beryl cheekily poked her head in and when she saw Emily, she grinned.

"Mommy!"

The sound of Beryl's voice forced Emily to look up and when she saw her daughter standing at the door, Emily winked at her happily.

Emily rubbed her temples and forced a smile on her face because she hadn't laughed in a long time.

"Mommy, have you been very busy lately? Would you like to have some rest?" Beryl asked, curiously gazing at her tired mother.

Emily felt rejuvenated, as if Beryl's words were all she needed to get through the day. "It's okay. Mommy is not tired."

Their precious moment was cut short when Emily's phone rang.

She quickly answered the phone and an impersonal voice came from the other end of the call.

"Miss Bai, please come to the meeting room at once. We have found the manufacturers for the new products. We are waiting for you to finalize everything."

Emily glanced at her watch, and her eyelids twitched abruptly. "Now?"

"Yes, Miss Bai."

Emily hung up the phone and looked at Beryl with an apologetic pout. After she thought of something, she said to Beryl, "Honey, Mommy has to attend a meeting. Can you wait for me here? And promise me that you won't run around? Please, be a good girl and don't d

ve, she saw two shadows overlapping hers.

Beryl turned around and looked up at the two women standing in front of her. Taken by fear, she stepped back into a corner until there was nowhere she could go.

Beryl recognized one of the two women. She remembered seeing her at their family dinner when she and Bowen had come to meet their parents.

The woman who had just been in Emily's office closed the door of the fire passage and locked it from the inside.

"What...what are you doing here?"

Beryl pretended to be calm, shifting her sight between the two women in front of her. She reached out with her small hands and gently held Estelle's hand.

"Big sister, I still remember you. Last time, you came out to have dinner with us. Bowen likes you very much."

Estelle's body stiffened and she dared not look into Beryl's eyes.

"How long have you been spying on us?"

The woman next to Estelle suddenly pulled Beryl's arm, piercing her sharp nails into Beryl's flesh.

"I...I don't know what you mean. I didn't hear anything."

Beryl's lips quivered as she looked at the woman with frightened eyes.

It was the same expression she would give to her teachers every time she made a mistake. This would always work to soften the teachers' hearts, who would then go easy on her.

"You didn't hear anything?"

The woman squinted her eyes at Beryl disbelievingly, examining every word with care.
