In the end, she chose not to say anything. After all, she had already pointed out that these men were put on her trail by someone. She believed that the police would discover the truth.

However, the two men looked at each other and exchanged a glance. Then, they seemed to have reached an agreement, and one of them said, "It doesn't matter, we will end up in jail. So what if we're sentenced fifty or sixty years? Why should we say anything?"

Their obstinate replies and refusal to cooperate was proving irritating. Seeing this, Carlos flared up and was about to flail them again. The police officers nearest to him immediately restrained him and said, "Mr. Li, you're here with the police, and you can't do this!"

Hearing this, Carlos somewhat regained his calmness. He stopped before he laid a finger on the man's face. He knew that even the most heinous criminal still had legal rights.

Seeing that Carlos had stopped, the two men grinned and even gloated. Carlos was livid by now. However, he couldn't do anything. He could only spit angrily at them, "Let's see how long you can keep silent behind bars!"

Then he walked over to Cherish. He was afraid that the more he spoke with those two men, the angrier he would get. It was very possible that he would lose all control of himself and beat them to an inch of their miserable lives.

Seeing that Cherish was still trembling in fear, Carlos bent down and gently scooped her up.

It was the first time that Cherish had been so intimately embraced by a man outside her family. She couldn't help staring wide-eyed at Carlos's face, feeling thrilled to be held and protected by the man she loved.

Carlos walked steadily. Cherish felt safe and secure in his arms. She relished in his warmth greedily. Smelling his unique fragrance, she gradually stopped trembling.

After a short while, Cherish was gently put into the waiting car by Carlos. Just as he closed the door and was about to go around to the other side of the car, several other cars appeared nearby. After a moment's pause, Carlos stopped next to the car.

Perrin was approaching them with an expression like a thundercloud. Before Carlos could say anything, he received a thunderous punch to the face. He lost his balance and st

t of anger now. The more she tried to explain, the angrier he would be.

She decided to wait until he had calmed down before explaining everything to him.

As Perrin walked away, Cherish couldn't help but look over his shoulder at Carlos who was watching them leave. She felt sorry for him and was unhappy about the way her brother had treated him, but she didn't dare say anything at this moment. She wanted to comfort him, so she just flashed him a broad smile on her blood-stained face.

At the sight of her smile, Carlos relaxed his tightly-knitted brows and returned the smile, waving goodbye to her.

In fact, he had heard the discussion between Cherish and Perrin.

If this had happened in the past, he would have approved of this way for Perrin to call off the engagement between him and Cherish. Carlos would even have been happy at that result. However, at this point in time, he felt a strange sense of crisis, and he even felt an impulse to somehow keep their future marriage intact.

It seemed that... In that moment, his heart flipped for her.

She was always warm and light like the sun, shining not too strong nor too bright. That girl always made him feel warm and needed. She was the spirit of simplicity and purity. Carlos didn't have to guess what she was thinking about all the time, because she would tell him everything proactively.

Getting along with her was easy and wonderfully enriching. Carlos always felt warm and happy around her.

She really was a good girl.
