The man waited, but Emily didn't continue. "Do you want to tell me more about him?" he asked.

"Yes. He is…he… I…I don't remember anything else…but…" Emily mumbled. She thought she had seen him before, but other than that there was nothing more. It felt as though a fragment of her memory was tickling at the back of her head, but the moment she reached for it, it suddenly disappeared.

'Maybe I've never met that person? Maybe I made the whole thing up in my mind.

Maybe it was just a dream. He was never in my life.'

"That's not really fair to me, is it now?" The man raised his eyebrows and cut her short with a polite smile on his face.

"I don't care. You promised." Emily crossed her arms and raised her eyebrows as if to mock him. "You said I can have the kitten."

"All right." The man couldn't resist Emily's cute gesture. He brought the little kitten and placed it in her arms. "It's yours now. Take good care of it."

Emily was so thrilled that she held onto the kitten tightly and ran back to her house without saying anything. The man followed her to make sure she arrived safely, and before Emily got inside her room, he cried out, "Hey, I didn't catch your name! Well, anyway, my name's Vedder. Don't forget who gave you that kitten."

"Vedder? Okay, sure. My name is Cloris Lu. We can be friends now." Emily's smile had the innocence of an angel.

'Ah, so she is from the Lu family? That's interesting.' The man said to himself while watching Emily disappearing into the villa. He waved at Emily as she disappeared into one of countless rooms in the villa, which looked more like a grand castle for a princess like her. He stood there for a moment and tapped his lips with his finger, as if in deep thought. 'She must be Sean's secret lover.

I see. But she is also a Lu… That doesn't seem to make sense, unless…'

Everyone in the villa was worried sick when they couldn't find Emily. They were so afraid of Sean that they searched every nook and cranny in the entire villa before he came back.

Just when they were about to launch a second search party, Emily walked in with a kitten in her arm. She strutted in, seemingly in a good mood, as if she had not a care in the world.

"Miss Cloris, where have you been? We were worried about you!" One of the maids patted herself on the chest as if to calm her beating heart. "Let me get that for you. You should get some rest."

"No, I'm fine." Emily dodged away. "Clean up the mess over the fence and put that ladder away before my brother comes back, or he will be angry with all

wandered around the villa in her slippers. Suddenly, she stumbled and landed into the arms of a man.

Sean pulled her close and said, "Emily, it's still early. What are you looking for?"

"Sean…" Emily raised her head to look at him with tear-soaked eyes and replied, "Kitten, my kitten is gone…"

Sean gently patted her on the back to calm her down and said, "Don't worry. I will find it for you. Let's find it together, shall we?"

"Okay…" Emily nodded.

The two were walking in the villa when a maid ran towards them. She stopped at the sight of Emily, as if to say something but then hesitated.

Emily's curiosity was piqued and she couldn't stand it anymore. "What's going on? Did you find my kitten?" Emily asked impatiently.

The maid looked at Sean as if to seek his approval. When Sean nodded at her, she turned to Emily and said, "Miss Cloris, we found the cat. It's in the garden, but…"

"Really? That's great! Come on, let's go." Emily cut her short, and tugged at Sean's hand to go to the garden.

"Miss Cloris, the cat… the cat is…" The maid's voice trembled, and her words forced Emily to stop on her tracks.

"What are you trying to tell me? The cat is what?"

"It's…it's dead."

"What?" Emily couldn't believe what she had just heard. Her eyes widened and she shook her head in disbelief. "But how could that happen?"

Emily didn't wait for an answer. She pushed Sean away and ran towards the garden. She almost tripped on a step on the way, but she didn't care.

There it was. The kitten, lying on the grass, dead.

It beautiful orange fur was now in a mess. It lay on its side, eyes open but unseeing, its mouth slightly open, and a fat purple tongue hanging out.
