Finally, Dylan stopped crying after he was convinced by the irrefutable proof presented to him by his father. After saying their good-byes, both children went back home with their fathers.

By the time Jacob and Beryl arrived home, it was already night time. "Oh, my God! Beryl, my darling! I have been so worried about you!" Emily's excitement at Beryl's return lit up the entire house with life anew. She reached out her hands to Beryl and pulled her into her longing arms.

Meanwhile, Bowen, who was busy in his own world and gleefully playing with his toys, found himself driven to curiosity by his mother's scream of excitement. The moment he saw his sister, he wiggled his hands and performed a victory dance before sauntering over to Beryl.

"Mommy, I am so sorry to have worried you. I promise that I will never go anywhere with Dylan without telling you again," Beryl sobbed.

Fortunately, Jacob had arrived just in the nick of time to save Beryl before she could get hurt. However, the shock from her traumatic experience still lingered in her thoughts. Judging by the look on her mother's face, she could imagine how painful it must have been for her and how easily things could have gone from bad to worse if it hadn't been for her father. All of this was the result of her recklessly deciding to run off with Dylan.

After calming her senses, Emily took Beryl to the living room to have a word with her. "Darling, why did you run away from home all of a sudden? Did Daddy and I do something to hurt your feelings? I couldn't help wondering whether you left because I ignored your feelings." Emily had been blaming herself for Beryl's disappearance.

She had recalled all the details before Beryl had gone missing and found that both she and Jacob hadn't given her any reason to run away from home. But then why had she run away?

Beryl lowered her head to avoid Emily's eyes. After biting her lip and hesitating, she finally confessed, "I never meant to run away from home. The other day when I saw Dylan, I asked him why he was sad and he said that he had heard from someone that he was not the son of Uncle David. He was so heartbroken that he decided to run away from home, so I decided to accompany him. I didn't think I was doing anything wrong."

"How is that possible? Why would Dylan even believe that?" Emily shook her head from side to side, making her disappointment known.

As Rita's best friend, if there was one person in the world who would know whether or not Rita had a relationship with another man before David, it would be Emily. If Dylan wasn't David's son, then whose son could he be? Emily found the mere notion of it utterly ridiculous.

"Beryl, don't talk nonsense! Who filled Dylan's head with these lies? I can assure you that Dylan is the biological son of Uncle David," Emily replied seriously.

Emily didn't know who was behind these baseless rumors, but even if they were true, neither Rita nor David would utter such ridiculous things from their mouths. Emily was absolutely certain of that. But then, where had Dylan heard this?

Beryl shook her head subserviently. "I don't know who it was that told Dylan that, because he was already in tears when I found him. I've never seen him crying before," Beryl answered in a low voice. "So when he told me that he was going to run away from home, I decided to go with him."

"I know you acted out of the kindness of your heart. I understand that Dyl

Emily knew that Jacob was powerless against her puppy-dog eyes. After all, they had never failed her. Not even once.

Just as she had expected, Jacob got off her reluctantly. He fetched Emily's phone from the bedside table and handed it to her. "Fine. I really don't know what to do with you. Tell her whatever you want. But I bet Rita won't answer your call at this time." Jacob grinned from ear to ear.

Jacob glanced at the clock once and found confidence in his conjecture as it was already past midnight.

"Don't be overconfident. We will see about that," Emily refuted defiantly. She tapped on Rita's number and waited for the connection.

"I hate to say I told you so, but it's the truth. If someone called me at this hour, I wouldn't answer it." Jacob laughed.

No one wanted to be disturbed at this time. At this hour, most people were either sound asleep or busy having fun with their partner.

If Jacob's phone rang at this critical time, he would not only refuse to answer it, instead he would find the one who dared to interrupt his intimate moment with his beloved and he would definitely tear him alive. Jacob patiently watched as Emily waited eagerly for the call to be connected.

As it turned out, Jacob was right. Although Emily tried to call Rita a few more times, she wasn't answering and in the end, Emily sighed and gave up.

"Okay, you were right. You're really good at guessing things correctly. Nobody answered! I guess I'll just have to call her tomorrow morning," Emily turned to Jacob.

She had to admit, willingly or not, that Jacob always made the right guesses. After putting her cell phone back on the table, she went back to bed with Jacob.

Jacob, delighted to see Emily defeated, crept up on her again and kissed her violently.

"My love, I am not only good at guessing but also good making you happy. I would be more than honored to show you my skills. Would you like to experience it firsthand?"

"You are a dirty man. All I said was that you are good at guessing. Nothing else. Not... Oh..." The first moan escaped Emily's lips.

Outside their window, even in the velvet dark, there was the light of the stars, perhaps a promise that even when we yearned for the light of the sun, there would also be stars to bring hope of the dawn.
