“I don’t think you handled that well, Master,” Silver said as Wolf’s Mental Aspect scratched the scales between her talons.

“Hm?” Wolf’s mental aspect asked, surprised by the unexpected comment. “What?”

Barbara got engaged that evening, as did Wolf and Anna. It was quite awkward. Anna didn’t come to the ball, saying she was feeling unwell. Barbara’s birthday ball turned into a double engagement party, with one person missing.

Wolf felt like a fool as he alone proclaimed that he and Anna were officially planning on getting married. The official document with Edwin’s approval and Didot family seal, as well as Anna’s letter were his only proof that he wasn’t crazy.

And Matilda even enthusiastically clapped her hands in that awkward situation.

“What have I handled poorly?” Wolf asked, aware that there were plenty of things during this incident he handled poorly. In fact, it was quite possible he didn’t handle anything well. At most he reached the realm of passable once or twice.

A clawed hand retracted into the egg, as Silver scratched her scaly chin.

“You should’ve gotten engaged to Barbara, not that confused annoying girl,” Silver confidently pointed out Wolf’s greatest mistake.

Silver looked up to Matilda, looked down on Anna, but she thought Barbara was just right.

“What?” Wolf’s Mental Aspect said wide eyed. If he had a physical body, he would’ve choked on saliva by now.

“Barbara is so cool,” Silver said excitedly. “She just says the first thing that comes to her mind. She’s incredibly honest.”

“Silver,” Wolf said incredulously. “Are we talking about the same woman?”

“No, no, hear me out,” Silver continued. “If Barbara was your female and she found out about that clerk, she would have either been alright with it. Or she would’ve killed her. Either way you, Master, would have suffered less.”

Wolf was shocked speechless.

“Silver…” Wolf started after a lengthy pause, but he still didn’t know what to say. His mind was drawing a blank and even a Mental Aspect remained silent.

“Master has already suffered enough,” Silver said in a worried voice Wolf hadn’t heard until now. “I don’t want Master to be sad.”

“Thank you,” Wolf said, his face twisted in an awkward grimace.

He then started petting the part of the eggshell where he believed Silver’s head was. Sure enough, he sensed the head rubbing against the inner part of the shell where he was touching Silver.

“Tomorrow I’m heading out for that special mission,” Wolf thought to himself. “I don’t know how long it’ll take, and I’m worried. I failed to advance my Sword-Sage Order, even after consuming all those Ninth Order Monster Cores.”

Wolf’s Mental Aspect wasn’t complaining. Wolf was just thinking about what awaited him and expressing his worries.

Silver listened silently. In the entire universe there were only three others who knew Wolf’s inner thoughts as well as she did. The amount of gibberish she heard on a daily basis was beyond belief, but that was one of the reasons she was so fond of her master.

“Master, I’m sorry,” Silver said with a long shell. “I wish I could help you more. I wish I could make it so nobody would dare bully you.”

“Where did that come from?” Wolf asked. He knew Silver was able to think quietly, unlike him.

“You’re so worried about these things,” Silver said honestly. “You’re worried all the time. You worry about Anna, but you never seem to worry about Barbara. That’s why I like her better. You don’t have to worry about her.”

Hearing those words, Wolf's Mental Aspect didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. After a moment he hugged the egg and rubbed his cheek against the shell where Silver’s head was and she rubbed back.
