Rutherford had a strange sensation in his heart that this was someone else and not his daughter when he saw the series of actions she had made.

However, in the very next second, he chided himself for even having such an absurd idea about his only daughter.

Yvonne dropped the smile soon after and cleared her throat as she prepared herself to explain why she had done whatever it was that Raylene had informed him.

"Papa, I want to make a deal with the Baron." She declared as she looked him straight in the eye.

Rutherford was aware of his daughter's wishful thinking of becoming the heir apparent in place of her brother until he fulfilled his dreams of becoming a Knight.

This made him ponder on whether this incident was related to that conversation they had in the past.

'She has not yet given up on that ridiculous idea?' He sighed and then shot her a sympathetic glance.

The women in this world were believed to be inferior to the men no matter how anyone looked at it.

Though his child was worthy enough of gaining an etcher which most men were unable to do, this did not mean that she was capable of standing toe to toe with the men.

'Even if I were to accept by some stroke of bizarre luck, the men in this Kingdom will never accept a woman to be the heir of a noble family.' He concluded as his gaze turned serious and stern.

He was willing to give her everything she wished for but if she was stubborn about gaining something that might hurt her, then he as a parent would never agree to it.

Therefore, he steeled his heart and was about to do what he ought to for the safety and security of his beloved daughter.

"Vonna, have you not given up on that absurd idea of becoming the heir in Howard's place?" He inquired with a grave tone.

'How does this connect with that?' The confusion was apparent on the little girl's face which had been neutral and expressionless until now.

This time, Rutherford was able to discern what her thoughts were and he was more than willing to explain why he had said those words.

"Aren't you trying to form a business alliance with Baron MacIntyre?" He quizzed and scoffed when he saw the nod from her.

'I think I just made that clear using straightforward words only a few seconds ago…' The little girl was speechless at what she had heard.

This made her assume that the man had the attention span of a sparrow that had made him utter such a worthless retort.

Rutherford was ignorant of the fact that he was just called dimwitted by his child as he was recalling his wife's words.

After hearing what Raylene had said, he could not deny the fact that his child had impressed him with her quick thinking and business acumen.

'She had found a chance to make business connections with that man and make a profit which she clenched immediately.' He praised the child who had done something worthy of being praised.

But at the same time, she had done something that would be looked down upon by the people of the society that he lived in.

'I need to explain it to her in words that she might understand.' He decided and then took in a deep breath to calm his nerves.

"Vonna… You have done something unnecessary." He pointed out which elicited an immediate frown from the little girl.

'How was that unnecessary?' She questioned him in silence, only using her arched brows as the means of their communication.

According to her beliefs, she had seized an opportunity to obtain a profit for their family so she could not comprehend which part of it was unnecessary.

"You want to prove to me that you are smart enough to bear the responsibilities of the heir in the future, isn't it?" He polled while rubbing the bridge on his nose.

Hearing this, Yvonne could not help but scoff in her heart.

'I did that because I am the one who helped Baron MacIntyre's baker with the recipe. So why can't I expect a part of the profit that he will make?' She gave him a silent retort as she could not speak up before the man in this tone.

However, she had to make him realize that everything she did was not with the intention of helping Howard. That was a side goal and not her main goal in life.

'I have my own reasons for doing it!' She scowled yet had an amicable expression on her face.

"Does Papa want my efforts of helping the baker to go in vain?" She muttered while playing with the edge of her frilly black gown.

Rutherford was stunned when he heard the aggrieved whispers coming from the child who sat before him.

He had been under the impression that she was doing so because she wished to prove something to him but as it turns out, he had been wrong to assume so.

Having been proved wrong, he was left with no choice but to listen to her explanation.

"What does Vonna want to do?" He repeated his earlier question but this time he seemed more open to hearing what her thoughts were.

Yvonne was cheerful that she was given the chance to speak her mind and was prepared to win him over.

"Papa, Vonna helped the baker which will help the cafe earn a lot in the future after they use my recipe." She educated her father on the 'good deed' that she had done.

Rutherford was aware of how a business was run and he was sure that Baron MacIntyre, a man who overpriced his products would definitely make a lot of money from this new dessert.

'He appears to be getting my point of view.' She exclaimed in joy when he saw the nod he had given her, indicating that she continued with her explanation.

"If Vonna did a good job then should she not be rewarded for it?" She muttered while tilting her head to the side.

Her reasoning was valid and had no flaw in it, after all, one should be rewarded for the work they did.

"But why a deal with the Baron? You can just ask the man to reward you with something simple." He retorted as he could not understand why his child wished to take the difficult route rather than the easier one.

'And this man is the wealthiest businessmen in the Kingdom!?' She could not believe that she was hearing this from him.

"Why ask for something else when I can get a constant stream of money from him?" She shot right back, making the man unable to respond immediately.

But he was her father, he had a sharper brain and a bigger mouth than hers.

"Why should we have a deal with Baron MacIntyre when we are not involved in that business?" He interrogated, liking this constant to and fro that they were engaging in.

The last interaction they had in his office was something that he held precious to him and this would soon be added to that list.

"We can always expand our businesses. Growth is essential in life." She preached righteously which made the man raise his brows in amusement.

'Vonna does have the knack for this.' He snickered as he stared at the little girl who had her cheeks puffed up and her arms crossed across her chest as she looked him into the eyes.
