Chapter 68 - Whether Liu Mei lived well or not, it only took a few words from Su Yu (3)

The next morning, Liu Mei didn't need to be woken up. She got up by herself to work, which left Su Lin no chance to nitpick.

When Liu Mei was in the communal bathroom washing clothes, Mrs. Liu came over to the sink with a wooden basin. While washing her clothes, she quietly said to Liu Mei, "Little Mei, don't you have your own thoughts? I can see that your sister-in-law spends all of her time reading books. She doesn't do anything. You're serving their entire family."

Liu Mei was still thinking about the scene of Su Yu speaking up for her, so she didn't take to heart when her second aunt tried to stir up trouble. Of course, she wasn't happy serving the Su family, but so what? Her sister-in-law was finally treating her nicely. If she caused trouble now, her sister-in-law definitely wouldn't help her again. At that time, she really wouldn't be able to live in the Su family.

Not getting a response from Liu Mei, Mrs. Liu said, "Are you stupid? How did our Liu family give birth to a stupid girl like you? They're bullying you so much -"

A coughing sound came from the door.

Su Yu came in with a washbowl, and Liu Mei and Mrs. Liu immediately tensed up. How much did Su Yu overhear?

"Yo, Mrs. Liu is here too. Why are you washing so many clothes? Mrs. Liu, you must wash the clothes of everyone in your family, right? You're so hardworking." Su Yu remarked with a fake smile.

Mrs. Liu had an unhappy expression. She no longer wanted to speak to the head of the Su family. Nothing ever good came out of their exchanges.

Su Yu didn't need a response from her. "Mrs. Liu, before persuading others, you should set an example. You do all the cooking and washing for your family, so don't lead Little Mei astray. Which family in the compound doesn't live like this?"

Mrs. Liu finally couldn't hold back anymore. "That's different. I'm serving my son and daughter. What's wrong with that?"

"Nothing, but if Liu Mei is so close to her family, how come I never see you coming over to help Liu Mei with laundry? Not only that, her parents won't even let her go see them. It can be seen that sharing the same blood doesn't mean closeness. The key is whether or not they're loyal. Only an idiot would be misled by a few words and do something that harms others which isn't beneficial to herself."

Su Yu started brushing her teeth and didn't say anything more.

Mrs. Liu tugged Liu Mei and motioned her to speak. Liu Mei instinctively dodged and left with the basin.

Second Aunt washed the clothes for her family. How did she have the nerve to call her stupid? Second Aunt was the old fool.

Liu Mei was worried that Su Yu would trouble her over the communal bathroom matter. However, Su Yu didn't say anything about it during breakfast as if nothing had happened.

Liu Mei felt even more uneasy. After her older sister-in-law issued the order, her younger  sister-in-law stopped nitpicking. If Older Sister-in-law got angry, who knows what will happen?

Without noticing, she had gotten more afraid of her older sister-in-law.

Su Yu didn't have the free time to care about Liu Mei's thoughts. For her, submitting her article for publication, getting it published in the newspapers, and making a name for herself was the most important thing.

And so, after breakfast, on the way to work, Su Yu mailed out several articles to different newspapers. She didn't want to put all of her eggs in the same basket. As for the content of those articles, they were effectively the same.

She was confident about her articles. In this era, the most important thing was to express a positive, healthy, and revolutionary ideology. As for the writing, it would be fine as long as it wasn't too bad.

In order to write the article, Su Yu combed through the Central Documents that the chairman had mentioned and his published speeches. She portrayed herself as a fanantical fan of the chairman. With so many quotations by the chairman in her articles, the newspapers were sure to consider her articles. By relying on the prestige of the great chairman, her articles had a good chance of being published.

(T/N: The Central Documents are a series of documents issued by China's central authorities each year about policy priorities for the year.)
